I speak from experience. Ive only been a member for a few months and have learned so much from these people. If you really dont know anything about Hinduism I suggest reading the Bhagava Gita(please forgive me if I spelled that wrong. It is centered around Krishna but God is God. In the Hindu religion he,she has many forms but they are all one. Its a lot for the western mind to swallow. Guest guest
It was Ganesh that revealed himself to me and got me reading about Hinduism. I am reading 'the Complete Idiots Guide to Hinduism' (I know odd name) and it is answering a lot of questions. So the next step is to get down the the Temple and get aquainted. Guest guest
Well at lunch time at work we play a war game called DoD. Well, for a palyer name I wanted something diffrent. Well, I thought a multi-armed, simitar welding hindu god would be cool. I ment no disrespect to Hinduism or hindus, but my ignorance is very clear to me now. But I went to the web and looked up Hindu Gods. I was in a hury and the first God to pop up was Ganesh. He has an elephant's head, 4 arms and holding an Ax. So I used Lord Ganesh as my player name. Well, I felt odd. So after the game I figured I had better read up on the deity who's name I was using. Well, Ganesha (Ganapati) spoke to me as I read. So now, hear I am, the more I read the more I want to learn. I now have Ganesh figures on my home alter and on top of my computers here at home and at work. I meditate on his name quite a bit and he is allways with me now. I also have found that repeating "aum Ganesh" is very relaxing and (when I think to speak it) can calm me when get up set and angry. So hear I am, once thought I was not willing nor have the desire to join any "organized" religon again find my self attracted to Hinduism. It speaks to me, answers questions I have had my whole life and some even before I ask them. And that is my 'revelation'. Guest guest
10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy">Several personal comments. 10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy"> The way you found Ganesh is not atypical. I think that we often discover aspects of God by some internal numinous quality that calls us back to the Godhead. Personally I don’t think that you need to join anything. I prefer to be a seeker or aspirant (Sadak) and find God through whatever disciplines, community or practice seems to call. 10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy"> 10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy">Henry 10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy"> Kevin McGlothlin [seeker_kevin ] Saturday, February 28, 2004 3:09 PM RE: New to Hinduism Well the revelation is not all the exciting.
