Lots of Westerners learn their Hinduism piecemeal. MJ seems to be predominently a Shakta (Goddess worshipper). And Lakshmi is in many ways analogous to the Greek Aphrodite -- a goddess of Love, Nature, and Financial Security. It takes a while for Westerners to learn that Ganesha acts as Deputy for his mother, Parvati, and so is the only male deity who is an honorary Shakti. Shakti means Power, and Ganesha rules over the Power to Begin Things Anew. > dont know how things are in the world of witch > craft but in the Hindi world Hindi is a language. No. Ganesha is a remarkably good-tempered deity. Ignore him, and he simply withdraws his power -- and none of your plans come to fruition! James, you are obviously a natural-born Ganapatya! Almost all Hindus give honor and first place to Ganesha. But most see another deity as First Cause. Shaktas see the Goddess as supreme; Shaivas see Shiva as the Prime Mover; Vaishnavas bliss out worshipping Vishnu (usually in his incarnations as Krishna or Rama). Only a very small number of Hindus see Ganesha as First Cause -- the Ganapatyas. How can Ganesha originate the Universe, if he was born from the dead skin and sandalpaste on Parvati's body? Because before Parvati gave him form, Ganesha existed as the first Sound that permeated the Universe when it was created... The Aum! And when you chant "Aum," you are attuning yourself to that Primordial Sound, which was Ganesha's original form. -- Len/ Kalipadma ______________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Guest guest
Thank you so very much for sharing your wisdom and giving clarification to some things. However, I am not a Dianic Witch, I am not solely a Goddess worshipper, or a Shakta as you describe. I would agree though, that there are many female wiccans/pagans who focus moreso on the Feminine Divine. Balance in all is more my line of thinking. I would not consider myself a Ganapatya either, as I feel a balance of the Female and Male aspects as paramount in my personal belief system. For me, to place more importance on one over the other is to unbalance everything! Mind you, I do always, always acknowledge Ganesha first in everything I do, every ritual, every bit of spellwork. To not remember to do this simply makes everything else I attempt to do a failure before it begins. Thank you again, Aum Gam Ganapati Namaha Libuesz kalipadma (AT) juno (DOT) com wrote: On Thu, 19 Feb 2004 06:32:40 -0800 (PST) james richard<nhraddude71 > writes:> Hello and welcome, Amazing you could know about Lakshmi without > knowing of Ganesh. Guest guest
Invoking Lord Ganapati before one approaches the other deities has it's roots in the puranas in which Goddess Parvathy places Lord ganapathy at the door to prevent any interruption in her time spent in the bath.. In Hinduism, there exists this six-fold systems .. 1) Vaishnavas - those who regard Lord Krishna as the supreme 2) Saivates - who regard Lord Shiva as the supreme 3) saktas - Mother Goddess as the supreme 4) ganapathy - Lord ganapathy as the ultimate reality 5) skanda - Lord kartikeya as the supreme 6) surya - Lord Surya (only Vedic God) as supreme.. ciao .. , MJ Krasny <mjkraaz63@s...> wrote: > Namaste Len, > > Thank you so very much for sharing your wisdom and giving clarification to some things.
