I live in Kansas, USA with my friend, sister witch and life partner, KJ. We share our home with (7) cats and one old lady dachshund. I was introduced to Lord Ganesha by KJ, who brought a small statue of him with her from Australia when she moved here about 2yrs ago. I was already learning about Sri Lakshmi and how fitting for her to bring Lord Ganesha to my attention. Since then I have grown to love Ganesh. We consider Ganesh and Lakshmi to be our patron deities. We each have separate altars for Ganesh, I have one specifically for Lakshmi and we have another dedicated to Kali Ma. Our personal working altars include representations of Ganesh and Lakshmi as well. While we are still learning as we go and by no means have we perfected our worship to Ganesha, but I do love Him and honor Him before all others in everything I do. I was delighted to find this group and hope that over time I can learn more of my Lord Ganesh and how to honor Him and show Him my devotion. I don't understand a great deal of Hindu custom, nor do I read Sanskrit so please forgive me my ignorance of these things. I am here to learn and to share. Worshiping Lakshmi without first giving Ganesh his proper respect is like spitting in the face of God. He is more than just a coffee table nic nac. He is the Tao. He is ultimate reality. He is the supreme Buddha. His true nature can not be described or pictured by the human mind. Your every heart beat occurs because he allows it to happen. Surrender to him and you will become free. I was just like you at one point. I was drawn by the curiuos form of the elephant headed boy but in time he became so much more. I wish you the best in your quest. There are many wise people in this group that can help you with questions and info so dont be shy about posting questions. God knows Ive posted some pretty strange ones and Ive always gotten an answer. Also about your description of the world as mundane. Its only as mundane as you make it. When I posted my email to the group the subject line was simply "hello". Due to all the virus activity the past few months, set up some safeguards in regard to emails and not allowing emails with certain buzzwords in the subject line (like "hello") were held up and not sent along. Now I honor Him before all others and all things. He is the embodiment of All, my guardian, my protector, the listener and the speaker, he has cleared a path for me, sustains me and has brought me to this very moment. I bow to Him when I rise up and before I lay down to sleep. Thank you Ganesha. My love to You. As for Sri Lakhsmi, I must give her credit for steering me towards Ganesha. For had she not presented herself along my path, I may still be lost to Ganesha. Everything happens for a reason. As far as Witchcraft goes... might I share with you a bit. The Craft is a belief which generally sees the Goddess as supreme and the God as Her consort. The Craft places importance on the balance of the two energies, Female and Male. It recognizes that both must exist in harmony for all life to exist, die and be reborn again. Most witches we know pay close attention to the cycles of the Moon and Sun, the changes of the seasons and the Earth Mother as She awakens in the Spring and becomes the fertile seedbed through the Summer; provides a bountiful harvest in the Fall and once again grows cold, barren and sleeps in the Winter to awake again in the Spring. My use of the word "mundane" is simply to note a separation from the work-a-day world and those times spent in prayerful, sacred space communing with the Divine. I was not drawn to the curious elephant headed boy or the coffee table Knick Knack as you mention. I was drawn to Him as my Lord. When my eyes met the first image of him I held, I felt immediately the void I had been living with,.. I knew at once of His importance and how I had failed Him. Many are highly knowledgeable too and I'm sure they are also members of relevant Groups. Guess we'll hear when they drop in.. Lovely to hear that you see Lord Ganesha first thing in the morning when you wake up and last thing at night before falling asleep. Tell you a lil story though it may not be relevant or exact to the dot in Indian texts: Emperor Akbar (Mughal Dynasty) was cruising his vast grounds one day and came upon a washerman with one eye and a deformed face. They looked at each other. Several inauspicious incidents occured to Akbar that day. He was asked by courtiers whose face he saw first that morning. Akbar mentioned the washerman and was convinced about executing the poor guy. Birbal, the emperor's most trusted friend and advisor heard of this, sought out the washerman and told him what to say when hauled before the liege. The moment came when Akbar asked the washerman "Do you think you have an unfortunate face?" (something along those lines anyway). The washerman lamented: "My liege, whose face is more unfortunate, yours or mine? You were the first person I saw this morning and I'm about to lose my head"." Akbar had a good sense of humor and realeased the washerman after acknowledging that Birbal had saved the latter's life. Most witches we know pay close attention to the cycles of the Moon and Sun, the changes of the seasons and the Earth Mother as She awakens in the Spring and becomes the fertile seedbed through the Summer; provides a bountiful harvest in the Fall and once again grows cold, barren and sleeps in the Winter to awake again in the Spring. He is the first thing I see when I arise and the last before I lay down to sleep.
