Guest guest
I used to think I had it all figured out when I was just a taoist with buddhist tendencies. I dont understand the birth of ganesh. Why would Parvati care if Vishnu saw her in the bath? Why would she create a son to have to battle Vishnu the lord of creation? She must have had some Idea of what the outcome of that confrontation would be. Also If Vishnu is so powerful then why was he so intimidated by Parvati's wrath that he restored Ganapati and granted him deity status first before all others. And if all gods are truly one does that mean that the whole drama just took place in the mind of the Brahman. I would love to hear others opinions and interpretations of this. Please dont look at my questions as insulent. I mean no disrespect .I love sri Ganesh and truly wish to understand him. I know this must be my path. Why else would I find a beautiful brass cast 12'' statue of Ganapati for sale in a discount clothing store for 30$. It was like fate. Hearing and understanding are to different things. I hear, now I wish to understand. Ignorantly yours, James
Guest guest
It was not Vishnu who saw her bathing. It was Shiv the father of Ganesh who was unaware that Ganesh was his own son. Lord Shiva has granted boon to Parvati before leaving for meditation, for a son. Its again a long story how he was born. On his return from meditation, he wasnot allowed by Ganesh to enter the house as PArvati was bathing, then began a battle between Ganesh and Shiva and Shiva beheaded Ganesha. After bathing when Parvati came and saw everything, she told Shiva that he was their son. SO Lord Shiva ordered his men (GANAS) to bring the head of living creature which they meet first. They saw an elephant and they cut the head and it was fixed on Ganesha's body. On seeing this Parvati protested that who will pray him. Then Lord Shiva told that from now onwards he will be the first to be prayed in any of the prayers or pooja's. There fore Ganesh is said as Ganapti. Guest guest
The story I first heard was much different. The story I heard had all the gods beging for mercy from Parvati and her Devis which threatend to devoure the gods unless life was returned to Ganesh. A much different perspective of the story you must agree. In this story Ganesh was formed by Parvati's shed skin and perfumed oils molded into the shape of a boy while she was bathing for the sake of having a gaurd for the door. Perhaps you can recomend a webst. that tells the true tail. Thanks James Anup Dave <anupgee > wrote: It was not Vishnu who saw her bathing. Guest guest
James if you really want to understand Ganesha, You should begin worship unto him immediatly if you believe Ganesha is calling unto you then he probably is. Ganesha is a very mysterious God and one of the greatest I have ever encountered. I don't believe one Story or Myth is capable of capturing the essence Of Lord Ganesha. For Lord Ganesha has many beginnings. And he will reveal himself unto you in time! If you ask him to open your heart your eyes and your ears unto him he will! Here is a site I have found particularily interesting where Lord Ganesha is concerned I hope this helps AUM GAM GANAPATIYA NAMAH Himalayan Academy look for the online book "Loving Ganesha" at this site http://www.himalayanacademy.com --------------also if you simply type in Ganesha, Ganesh, Ganapati or add Lord before each one on any search engine you will find many sites available with info pertaining to Lord Ganesha but like I said not one story or myth can capture the reality that is Lord Ganesha he has been worshiped for thousands of years even prior to the Vedic era when he was worshiped as a Dravidian Trible God. Guest guest
In fact I have been meditating on Ganapati for the last 2 months on my lunch brake at work along with the yoga excersises I perform before meditation. I use a 108 bead Mala for spiritual purposes and to keep me from being late going back to work. To me He is like a boddhisatva. I think of him as infinitely as large as the universe and small enough to sit in the heart of every atom of my body existing within me and without me to quote George Harrison. I am by no meens a perfect buddhist or Ganesh disiple. I have many human weakness that I have been strugling with like Demons. Since I have brought Ganesh into my heart It feals like I have a guru within me trying to help me get past my struggles in life no matter how small they may seem. Loving Ganesh is not the easiest path for me because for a white American Im expected to be a Christian by society. I do not know one other person in my life that gives any respect to Ganesh. They just make fun of his outward form. All of you at "Om Ganesh"are the only people I really speak freely about these matters. Everybody else just looks at me like Im crazy for my beliefs. Thank you for the mantra. I will be sure to use it. Just for my sake what does aum gam Ganapatiya namah translate into english as. Guest guest
I think it is fair to compare the mysteries of the Puranas to taht pf the Parables in the Bible, and I mention this for the sake of some with Judeo- Christian background. Both "myths" and "parables" represented in those respective scriptures are often painted in very simplistic stories,to paint a much larger picture taht would in turn, show humanity a tiny slice of Godhead, who is himself limitless for our finite human intellect. The story of lord ganapati's origin should not be taken for it's face value only.. Lord Ganapati is God, he is never created and never will he ever be destroyed, but in this purana.. it is to illustrate the essential participation and relationship between the male/Shiva and female/ Parvati aspect of Godhood.. When Lord shiva walked into the Paravati's bath without first seeking her permission, he violated Parvati's need for privacy .. and this situation can be likened to that of a careless devotee approaching the murthy in the temple without the priest's assistance.. and when paravti created ganapati, she in turn violated the cosmic rule in which male and female energies are needed for creation.. and by placing Ganapati to guard the door (this is also the reason why we invoke Lord ganapati first before anyone else, as he is always "guarding" and removing obstacles for us) the without first informing Lord Shiva, it was her way to "punish" Lord Shiva - something of passive aggressive .. and when Lord Shiva gave Lord Ganapati a new head.. it is thus balanced.. Lord Shiva participated in the birth of Lord Ganapati, Goddess Parvati is appeased and Lord Shiva is glorified through his wisdom .. I hope this will help.. ciao , "nhraddude71" <nhraddude71> wrote: > I used to think I had it all figured out when I was > just a taoist with buddhist tendencies.
