Guest guest
I just found the information on my calendar from the temple in NY dedicated to Ganesh. His birthday celebration is August 22-31st. with the principal day being August 30th. There is nothing more pure than the love of an animal. Guest guest
OK I am confused about something-can someone help me? According to my Hindu calendar the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi is from August 22-31st this year. But reading some websites online it says that we put the clay idol of Ganesh in the water 10 days after his birthday-which is on the 30th this year-in that 10 day span do we also celebrate with gifts and sweet, and if so that would mean the whole celebration is actually 20 days long? Can someone please straighten this out for me, I would really appreciate it, thank you so much Keri There is nothing more pure than the love of an animal. Guest guest
Namaste Keri, My calendar in Oztralia also says 22-31 August. Just humbly guessing here: Depending on the part of India a person is from, his/her tradition, caste and what his/her village or local temple does, some devotees observe 22-31 only. Others may have a longer festival/celebration lasting 20 days with the full works (offerings, etc.) Those near the Ganges River would carry Lord Ganesha into the water to bathe Him. Others simply use Ganges Water that was obtained from shops or given by friends or temples, etc. Some folks have clay idols, some brass, some copper. Whatever material the murthi is created from, it does not matter - they still bathe Him. Humbly, I would like to say it is not the "size" of anything that matters, it is sincere devotion that counts. The impoverished devotee may just be able to offer one flower but with pure heart. The Lord sees, hears and knows. Some sadhus who possess nothing, offer only their souls but still receive blessings from Ganesha. Just sharing two cents' here meantime. Shall ask around to see if I can find out more. Meantime, anyone with information, please share your wisdoms with us. It will be highly appreciated, thank you.
