Guest guest
Ganesha is the leader of the Ganas, a motley group of various different species of demigods who often accompany Lord Shiva. These include the erotic dancing-girls of Indra's heaven, the Apsarases, and their musical accompanists, the Gandharvas. A few years ago, a friend bought a white-metal incense holder at a Tibetan Buddhist street fair, decorated with images of what looked like angels, but which I soon realized were Gandharvas, winged Buddhist (and Hindu!) musicians who live on the fragraces of incenses (and other strong scents). (Wish I could find another such incense holder.) I know that Gandharvas are supposed to be so seductive that any woman found with one immediately loses her good reputation! Can any of you Hindu scholars with web access find and download for me any articles with further information about these fascinating creatures of Hindu folklore? How are they invoked, what boons do they grant, and are they secretly congregating around the stagnant water in my kitchen sink? -- Len/ Kalipadma ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
