An insight into our culture and ethos

Jaya Guru Datta

Recent controversy about Indian history, traces of the religion, rather its

depiction (in California State Board of Education Text Books for High School

Students) caused a furore in US and the echo was also heard in Indian academic

circles.

What Sri Swamiji has explained about Indian Philosophy (Hinduism) and its

essence, let us refer to Bhaktimala reports. Tolerence to other pantheons to

realise the absolute Truth and Helping others - This should be the platform on

which our tradition stands, Sadguru Deva explained in one His speeches. He has

added that, that is the reason why Bharateeya Dharma has so much scope for

diversity (Of thoughts, Paths of Worship, Art and Philosophy). Maximum one

could do to enlighten people about the greatness of His philosophy. (Utmost the

proponent was permitted to defeat the opponent by logic, but never permitted by

the scriptures (in essence) to insult or harm any person or sect for its

ideology. That was the reason, many offshoots and variant schools of thought

were allowed to flourish. Many kings were tolerant of different faiths and were

providing patronage in their courts.(Of course there were aberrations and

exceptions as history).

Western Educated Indian Academics (claiming to be guardians of factual

presentation; who are of Indian origin and have undergone history lessons

prepared by British to leave their legacy behind, intact) never lose a chance

to pummel and pound any idea which is slightly deviant or contrary to their

belief. They go to any extent to label the differing group as illusioned or

fundamentalist, as the sad unfolding of events have demonstrated.

{In fact, the word Hindu is also foisted on the culture by external

academics. Because, no where in the tradition, there exists a word which does

not have its origination from a Dhatu (Root Verb of Samskrutam). And every word

or label has its intricate meaning, deriving its meaning and intrinsic meaning

from our Vyakarana Sastra and vast repertoire of Puraanas.)

This was one website, (I found) which has some information about the

origination of Indian culture. At least such sources of information should be

pointed to the next generation, so that they could be aware of the facts,

interpretations, faiths and traditions and come to a fair conclusion. Please

spread word about other websites or sources of information, which speak about

the facts (according to traditional scholars) and corroborate alternative

theory (Other than what Modern Historians developed) about our culture and

tradition.

Ekam Sat Vipraa Bahudhaa Vadanti.

(Truth is one. It is interpreted in different ways)

May our Sadguru bless to realise the truth in its pristine form.
