Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta I have included an excerpt from Sri Swamiji's biography. It is such a clearly elucidated methodology; and has helped us see where and how the distractions of intimate relationships affect our sadhana. Sri Guru Datta Hanuman ÒSadhana Upanishad intitiated by Sri Swamiji for HouseholdersÓ. 1. One who practices spiritualism should have a strong determination, ÒI will cut off all my karmas.Ó 2. He must know and understand that the glamour and allurements of senses are his enemies. 3. All, which he sees in the forms of children, enemies, friends etc., are in fact the consequences of his deeds in his previous birth and so all these are his enemies. He must have a strong resolve to sever that attitude to them. 4. In fact, children, friends and wife, etc. are not your enemies. The glamorous affection you have towards them is your enemy. The animosity you have towards your enemies is also glamour. All this glamour is acquired by you as a consequence of your past deeds which are your enemies. So you have to sever it! As a first step you have to server the glamour and affection you have towards your children, friends women other than your wife, and others; wealth. Then you must server the rest. 5. The root cause for glamour is ignorance. If ignorance is to be annihilated it should be done by Sadguru only (a noble Preceptor only). For that purpose you must surrender to the Preceptor. 6. In the first step, yourself, your lawful wife and your PreceptorÉyou three are one group. You three are friends to one another. The rest are your enemies. First get rid of the feeling of enmity. The very first you have to discard is the glamour towards your children. Then it does not necessarily mean you should hate all those in the house! That is wrong, you must appear only to be affectionate towards them. You must not cultivate glamour towards them. This is a very difficult vow like the vow to stand on the edge of a sword! Still you have to do it. In this vow when you reach the next step, your Preceptor and yourself will remain there. In the last step you alone will remain. 7. Among the sense organs, first you have to be careful is about your tongue. The fickleness of the tongue is s strong enemy! Yielding to that desire, you must not crave for strong and pungent taste. The food also should be limited and that too a light meal. 8. You must regulate your heart so that desires are not born and even if they are born, they wontÕ stay and sway you. If this should happen, you must come into experience with ÒLord Preceptor is my real friend, refuge and God.Ó You must get rid of such company and talk as would create conflict with your noble Preceptor! If at any time your mind succumbs to the cravings of sense organs or to persons abusing the Preceptor, you yourself must impose rigorous punishment to your mind. 9. If all the things told above should come into practice, it will be possible only if there is the PreceptorÕs grace on you. You must incessantly pray to the Lord Preceptor to bless you with the power necessary to successfully manage respective practices.
