Guest guest
The implied meaning of the chinmudra is the union of Shiva and Shakthi. Shakthi represents maya, or multi-faceted perception that generates separation between the perceived and the perceiver. Shiva represents the self-existent unitary principle that transcends the three states of waking, dreaming, and deep sleep and is otherwise indicated by the vedic statement "Aham Brahmasmi". The union of the perceptual experience that results in the inability to distinguish the 'inner' from the 'outer' combined with the knowledge of the unitary self-existent principle, is the implied meaning of the chinmudra. The combination of the perceptual intuition in which the knower merges with the known and that particular knowledge of the perceiver, leads to what is known as jnana drishti, through the symbolism of the jnana chakshush (eye of knowledge) or the third eye of shiva. When the third eye is open, the world appearance is relegated to a secondary status, while the self shines forth as the fundamental reality. This is true perception, the experience of the Truth of One. Prostrations to Guru Dakshina-murthy (Guru Dattatreya) who through teachings of Silence instructs his disciples on the unitary principle through his expression of the chin-mudra. Jai Swamiji!
