Guest guest
> JGD, In the 16 years that I have been with Sri Swamiji this question about money and our guru has come up in many conversations. Just recently, someone confronted me about gurus who have luxury cars or stay in expensive hotels. My response is that first, it isn't free to do such great works as offering feeding programs, health clinics, and maintaining schools. Also, Sri Swamiji has created one of the greatest tributes I have seen to Indian culture with His ashram. Not only is it a spiritual center in which we can all find wonderful lessons, it is a tremendous blessing to India and its culture. But it isn't free to create such a wonderful gift to a nation, indeed the world. Also, last but certainly not least, in fact most importantly, our Guru has sacrificed his entire life for His mission. He devotes every waking hour to "our" needs, spending endless hours listening to our petty complaints, fears, and hopes. Sri Swamiji once said in a lecture at DRC that being a teacher means being slave. And He is truly a slave to all of us, running from continent to continent, blessing us with his understanding, love and time. When I think of this I often want to cry for him and am happy for any convenience he has. To the person who recently criticized the fancy cars, etc. I said "My guru lives like a bird in a cage, and I can't do anything to stop that, but I certainly want him to be in the most comfortable, beautiful surroundings he can have." A few weeks after I made these comments to this person I received an email saying how my comments had made them look at things in a new way. I was always raised to believe that it wasn't money that was evil, but how we used it. I am proud of the Good, good works our satguru does with our donations. His legacy is magnificent and we have no need to argue about this issue at all, only to show our love and respect. JGD, Daria
Guest guest
JGD, The odd comments of these people shows only the vagaries of mind of the people. Anything has to be seen with a Child's mind like we seee it for the first time. But mostly what happens is everything is seen with a preconcieved idea. The mind has decided it is what and then the scene is viewed, I dont think it can have anyother view. The friend you mention might be having an ide as to how a Sadhu has to look like and what he should do. It is because the mind what I mean is the Vignana or the reasoning one which thinks based on some inputs that is already existing. I remember what Swami Sukabodhananda sarcastically says during his lectures: "Some of my students or devotees approach me and sy Swamiji you are not supposed to play Basket Ball or Tennis and it is not good for a Sanyasi like you. I ask why??. They say simply it is like that only. You see the olden days of vedic time and the Sanyasis of those days were they playing these games I immediately say there was simply no game of Basket ball or Tennis esisting during the Vedic days and so the Sanyasis did not play such games." Our Swamiji is on a mission and it is to help us uplift ourselves and it is our luck that we know him and we are under his blessings. It is simply as our Swamiji says nobody has any business to look at what Swamiji does it is just look at what we get by being his devotee. He always says he is like a Super Market and many people have different requirements and all that is available is not for everybody. People are supposed to select that is required for them. Pray our Sadguru that such people are blessed to look things in right perspective. It can even be a test for us on how we react under such circumstances all only our Sadguru knows. SGD.
