Nirvana Satka of Adi Sankara: the six verses

now after Sri Swamiji's explanation's conclusion, here are the six verses of

Sri Bhagavatpada Sankara Acarya and their translation as per the booklet:

 

NIRVANA SATKA

 

MANOBUDDHYAHANKARA CITTANI NAHAM

NA CA SROTRA JIHVE NA CA GHRANA NETRE

NA CA VYOMA BHUMIRNA TEJO NA VAYUH

CIDANANDA RUPAH SIVOHAM SIVOHAM

 

I am neither Manas (mind) nor Buddhi (intellect) nor Ahankara (ego).

I am not the ear, I am not the tongue, I am not the eyes.

I am neither space nor light nor wind.

I am Siva, Existence, Knowledge and Bliss

 

NA CA PRANASAMJNO NA VAI PANCAVAYUH

NA CA SAPTADHATURNA VA PANCAKOSAH

NA VAK PANIPADAM NA COPASTHA PAYU

CIDANANDA RUPAH SIVOHAM SIVOHAM

 

I am not Praana or the five types of winds.

I am neither saptadhatu (seven elements) nor panca Kosas,

nor am I the sensory organs such as speech, hands, legs

and the organs of excretion and generation

I am Siva, Existence, Knowledge, Bliss

 

NA ME DVESARAGAU NA ME LOBHA MOHAU

MADO NAIVA ME NAIVA MATSARYA BHAVAH

NA DHARMO NA CARTHO NA KAMO NA MOKSAH

CIDANANDA RUPAH SIVOHAM SIVOHAM

 

I have no hatred or love, no greed or attachment

I have neither vanity nor jealousy;

neither am I Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksa (the four goals of life).

I am Siva, Existence, Knowledge and Bliss.

 

NA PUNYAM NA PAPAM NA SAUKHYAM NA DUKHAM

NA MANTRO NA TIRTHAM NA VEDA NA YAJNAH

AHAM BHOJANAM NAIVA BHOJYAM NABHOKTA

CIDANANDA RUPAH SIVOHAM SIVOHAM

 

I have no merits or sins; no pains or pleasures;

I am neither the holy waters [Tirtham] nor the sacred chantings

[Mantras/Mantro];

I am neither Veda nor Yajna (sacrifice);

I am not the eater or the eaten; or the act of eating;

I am Siva, Existence, Knowledge and Bliss

 

 

NA MRTYURNA SANKA NA ME JATI BEDHAH

PITANAIVA ME NAIVA MATA NA JANMA

NA BANDHURNA MITRAM GURURNAIVA SISYAH

CIDANANDA RUPAH SIVOHAM SIVOHAM

 

I have no fear of death nor have I any distinctions of caste and creeds;

I have no birth, no parents;

therefore no relatives or friends; I have neither a Guru nor a disciple;

I am Siva, Existence, Knowledge and Bliss.

 

AHAM NIRVIKALPO NIRAKARA RUPO

VIBHUTVACCA SARVATRA SARVENDRIYANAM

NA VA SANGATAM NAIVA MUKTIRNA BANDHAH

CIDANANDA RUPAH SIVOHAM SIVOHAM

 

I am unpolluted Bliss of Brahman;

perfect, spotless; formless; immaculate; immovable, innate Reality beyond the

senses.

I exist for ever, boundless as space; I have neither bondage nor release;

I am Siva, Existence, Knowledge and Bliss.
