Guest guest
Jai Guru Datta! Here is the second Bhajan to which you wanted the meaning. Again, I tried my best. Some places I had no clue at all, as you can see. Some interpretations could be wrong! But, I just took the word-to-word meanings. Please excuse if there are any mistakes. This effort is only a humble seva to the lotus feet of the Sadguru. jai Guru Datta! SADAANANDE JO ============= Sadaa+aanande = Oh! the one who is always happy (sadaa=always, aananda = bliss, happiness) Jo = The symbolic sound syllable 'Jo' invoking sleep. (Please sleep! take rest!---because you are tired in adminstering the whole universe and protecting your devotees!) [ There is a big scientific significance for these letters: 'Jo' and 'laali'. These two are in a way beejaksharaas i.e. powerful letters full of energy targetted at a specific purpose, here the purpose being invocation of sleep. The letter 'La' is know also as "Water Letter". That is why teh baby's sleeping times are also famous as lullabies. Scientifically these two letters when pronounced cause sleeping vibrations. For the divine mother who is one with the universe, who is SAKTI Swaroopa(energy form) can we invoke sleep? As ordinary human beings we think ---if GOD is put to sleep can the universe move, because GOD is Himself/Herself the universe. Infact he is beyond Universe....the Chaitanya. According to Sanaatana(age-old) traditions, we perform shodasopachaara(16 falicitations(??) of worship) poojas to the GOD in the SAGUNA UPAASANA(i.e. Worship where we see God manifested in a form like Rama, Krishna etc.). In that procedure we offer water, food etc. all services to GOD! Same is the case with comforting GOD to sleep. This Seva(service) is also known as "Dolotsava" [Dola=cradle]. During these Sevas the Saadhakaa(devotee/student) attunes himself with GOD and hence merges himself in the service of GOD through the forms of Seva he/she is aware of in this world. According to a human's knowledge, if GOD --WEERE to ever appear in physical form, at the maximum a human can offer these forms of Sevas at ones highest capacity. What else can we do? what else can we give? how else can we serve the ONE who created ourselves? It goes beyond our comprehension. Hence what ever is possible in our limited worldly boundaries, we try to offer as service. the cradle's swinging has a periodic to and fro movement. Like wise the Naada also has Aaavartana---periodicity. Dola Seva is one such Seva. Maha vishnu is said to be in YOGA NIDRA(Yogic sleep) during pralaya. This divine NIDRA also symbolizes SAMAADHI STHITI(state). We are told there is a great Yogic inner meaning also. I am in capable of talking some thing that I do not know, that I have no experience about. Thus I remain.] (Oh! the one who is) Sadaa = always Spande = vibrating [The divine mother is Naadatmaka. i.e. one with Naada. The Nada represents vibration. Every thing that exists in the universe is a form of Naada. Even scientific researches reveal that at the microcosmic state every thing is a vibration. Nothing more than that. Scriptures mention that ONLY primordial sound existed before the creation.] Jo = Jo Chidaakaase = Chit + AAkaase = (Oh! the one who is) the sky of conciousness [i.e. who is pervading all over like the consciousness] Jo = Jo (Oh! the one who is) Chiram = eternally Diivyasi = (glowing) // I am not confident ??? Jo = Jo (1) (Oh! the one who is the ) Punjo = collection of Nigama = Nigamas/Vedas Jo = Jo Bhavati = Oh! Mother! Rajjur = ???[in Sanskrit Rajju means thread. Here the thread could possibly be related in Yogic sense of the Sushumna Naadi because Lalita devis is claimed to be in the form of energy that flows through the Sushumna Naadi that is in the center of the backbone.] Jo = Jo (Oh! the one who spans) Ajaandaali = the innumerable nebulas of the universe [Aja = the one that has no birth. Ajaanda = universe] Jo =Jo sadaa = always (as) Paryanko+asthi = (her) couch/bed. {Another way that could be contemplated is: You are the Ajaanda=universe. You are being always like the huge couch/bed and pervading the entire universe. Meaning, every thing in the universe is nothing else but your form!!} Jo Jo = Jo Jo Bhavati = Oh! Mother! Srustischa = the creation and [srusti = creation, cha=and] (you are) Riitischa = the procedure of Pralaya = the final annihilation of the universe Sive! = Oh! the consort of lord Siva! Yaatam = ??? { Anotherway of understanding is: Sive + Yaatam = the one who is merged in lord siva! [yaatam = gone into] } Jo = Jo Tatha = thatway/then/and Yaatam = ??? cha = and Dolaayaam = swinging (like a swinging cradle) {In essence the meaning can be taken as follows.--- The creation of the universe and its annihilation are represented by the swing of a cradle! Oh! Mother you are the cradle conducting the creation and annihilations.} (2) MAMA = My Chittam = mind Bhavati = happens to be Dola = a swing Te = to you Jo = Jo Sadaa = always tatra = there api = also bhaati = glows/illuminates yaata yaata = ???? katha = story { I absolutely don't know what is the meaning here?????} Janani = Oh! mother (Jananam = birth, Janani = the one who gives birth) Nitaym = always Astu = Let there be Dola = swinging Me = my manasi = in the mind. [i.e. in my mind] {Another way of understanding is that : Oh! Mother! let my mind be the swing to you always!} Tvam = you (are manifesting in the form of) Suraaga = su+raaga = the great raaga(i.e. tune?) (called) Dwijaavanti = 'Dwijaavanti' [the raaga titled 'Dwijaavanti'] (You are) Sachchidaananda = Sat +Chit+Aananda = Truth+Consciousness+Bliess. {Anotherway of looking at the last two lines in the stanza: Janani-Nityam-Me-Manasi-Tvam-Dwijaavanti-Suraagaa-(iti)-Dolastu Oh! Mother! you are always swinging in my mind in the form of the great Dwijaavanti raagaa!! } SRI GURU DATTA. Guest guest
Dear Raveendra, Jai Guru Datta, Thank you very much! Also for the first translation! The mind as cradle for God/Mother Goddess reminds me of Kabir... Very beautiful. Thanks again. Sri Guru Datta
Guest guest
sorry, meant: mind as swing: Song of Kabir BETWEEN the poles of the conscious and the unconscious, there has the mind made a swing: Thereon hang all beings and all worlds, and that swing never ceases its sway. Millions of beings are there: the sun and the moon in their courses are there: Millions of ages pass, and the swing goes on. All swing! the sky and the earth and the air and the water; and the Lord Himself taking form: And the sight of this has made Kabîr a servant. http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/sok/sok17.htm as Shiva/Lord =Shakti (from Tvam Sadasivasi Camba: Devi, you are adressed as Sadasiva, as you have merged in Lord Sadasiva totally....) this is very similar in a way. Sadaanande Jo is wonderful. Thanks again.JGD > Oh! Mother! let my mind be the swing to you always!}
