Jaya Guru Datta,

Here is today's saying:

“It should be remembered that Prana is only one. But depending upon its

different positions and actions in the body, it is called by five different

names.

When it is in the heart, it is called Prana. This brings about vital functions

like breathing. When it is in the lower abdomen, it is called Samana. It

brings about digestion and metabolism. When it is in the upper thorax, it is

called Udana. It causes production of sound. That which pervades the entire

body is called Vyana. It causes the Naadis (channels) to pulsate and is

responsible for all actions in the body. The Prana, which has these five

subdivisions, comes from the combination of Rajas aspects of the five subtle

elements.”
