LESSONS FROM BHAGAVAD GITA - 24 As taught by Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji In the next verse the Lord gives a warning to those who do not pay any heed to His instructions. "Those who carp at this doctrine of Mine and do not practice it, deluded in all knowledge and devoid of discrimination, know them to be ruined." (Chapter 3, Verse 32). People may be highly educated and well versed in scriptures, but if they have no faith in the Lord and His teachings they will pave the way for their own destruction. Although they are learned, they lack discrimination and so they are deluded in all knowledge. They have innumerable desires and as such they are haunted by hopes and fears of all kinds. They cannot escape from the wheel of births and deaths. The idea is that those who lack faith in the Lord indulge in all sorts of fallacious reasoning and ask such questions as, "Can any one work without a selfish motive? Is the Lord full of desire for the fruits of action? Instead of taking care of the body why should we meditate on the soul which is an abstract idea?" Those who put such questions and ridicule the teachings of the Lord are all educated and intelligent people. They can easily grasp the merit of the Lord's teachings. But out of sheer egoistic pride they are unwilling to recognize it. Such people who ridicule the teachings of the Lord indulge in senses. As a moth goes to embrace the flame that consumes it, these people take to the enjoyments of sense objects, which is self-destructive to them. - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.
