This week's Upanyasam on Adhimanushasthavam Sri.E.V.Bhoovaraga Swami recapped

the Q & A from previous lectures, on SriRamavatharam from question 17 on.

 

The questions so far asked were:

 

1) You say You are born a man, but how did You give Moksha as a man to Jatayu

who was a bird, 2) A bird was not entitled for Moksha, so how did he attain

Moksha? 3) Why did You choose Sugriva as a friend and his mighty brother Vali as

a foe? 4) Why did You kill Vali from hiding? 5) As a Man how could You build a

floating bridge to cross the ocean, that too only having monkeys to build it?

 

This week the questions that were discussed are

 

Question No 23: You! who is birth less, born a man out of pity for us, was able

to conquer Varuna Raja to build the bridge, which is no small feat, yet You who

is worshipped by Brahma and all the Devas!! how did You get bound by Indrajit’s

arrow and let him claim victory over you?

 

Question No 24: SriRama! You who haven't crossed the ocean, You who didn't know

the strengths and weakness of Your enemy, still how did You crown Vibhishana as

the future king ?

 

Answer to question :

 

23) Srimanarayana in born on this earth because of kripa for us. In last

question we saw that first SriRama surrendered to Samudra Raja, because

Vibhishana told Him to (It worked for Vibhishana and without realizing SriRama's

velour he recommended this method to Him). In the beginning Samudra Raja didn't

respond to You, and when You were ready to wage war against him, he came running

to You and agreed to help You. Thus You won Him over. You are a Sarvaloka

Saranyan. After the war was over with Ravana, all the devas visited You, and

they brought Dasaratha with them. Your father wanted to grant You whatever You

wished, and because of Your KalyanaGunas You wanted Your father to take Kaikeyi

back as his wife and innocent good natured Baratha as his son. Though everybody

told you that You were a GOD, yet You denied all of it and claimed to be man and

Dasaratha’s son. But I know why You were bound by Indrajith's arrow, when You

had shown so much mightiness so far. The answer was given in

Sundarabhagusthavam--- Perumal, SriRama was putting on an act, at that time.He

pretended to fall for Indrajith's arrow, and then recovered this to show Ravana

that He was invincible, and create fear in his heart. Ravana is very proud of

his son who has conquered Indra and thus called Indrajith. So when they are

thinking that Rama is a mere mortal, but to recover from Indrajith's arrow,

would certainly cause them concern and You were thinking that Ravana would

return Sita without causing anymore bloodshed. Thus You pretended to fall prey

to Your enemy's arrow. But I know Your parathathvam.

 

Answer to question 24) The answer to this question is very divine. All of Rama's

younger brothers basically had a shortcoming, none of them wanted to be a

crowned King. That is why as soon as Vibhishana surrendered to SriRama he was

crowned. SriRama offered His kingdom first to Lakshmana, which was rejected very

vehemently, and then we all know about how Bharatha took Rama’s Padukas to rule

Ayodhya, and Sugriva also refused to be crowned. Rama did not want to go through

this with Vibhishana again. As soon as he was accepted as a brother, he was

crowned before he could change his mind. He was crowned on the sea shores with

grass seating and monkeys as witnesses. Also Rama is a Sathya Sankalpan whose

Sankalpam doesn’t get wasted. Also Rama knew that Ravana will be sending spies

to learn His strengths and weakneses and Rama believed that if the spies goes

back and report that Vibhishana was being crowned that might instill fear in

Ravana’s heart. After Rama’s victory Vibhishana was duly

crowned properly under pomp circumstances in front of all his subjects by

Lakshmana. One might ask, so what happens if Rama didn’t win the war or Ravana

had surrendered to Him, He is Paramathma and He is creator, maintainer and

sustainer. He is not going to loose, but in case that happened He still had

Ayodhya, and Vibhishana would have been king there. Srimannarayana is the only

one who is not jealous of others fame and fortune. That’s why SriRama didn’t

stand in front of Vali to kill him, because though He would have lost half His

powers to Vali, Rama would have won eventually, in which case Indra’s boon would

not have been effective. He didn’t want to undermine Indra, the same way he

became bound to Indrajith’s arrow.
