Namaskarams.

 

We have a very beautiful slokam (second one) in vishnu sahasranamam which

invokes the grace of Vishwaksenar (otherwise also called as Senai Mudaliar).

 

yasya sthiravikrAtyA parisaktyA parasthatam

visvam nignathi satatham vishwaksenam tama asrayE.

 

The slokam suklambaratharam ........ upa santhayE invokes the blessings of

Lord Vishnu meaning :

 

suklam - white

ambaram - cloth

tharam - dressed in (white cloth)

vishnum - vishnu (all prevading)

shashivarnam - darkish blue colour

chaturbujam - who has four hands

prasanna vathanam - who has happy blissful face (muka mandalam)

dyayEth - grace me

sarava - all

vigna - difficulties

upa santhayE - over come

 

The Lord Vishnu who is dressed in white cloth and who resides everywhere

(vishnu) and who is darkish blue in colour and who has four hands and who

has a blissful face, please grace me to overcome all difficulties (the karma

I am going to do).

The shloka invoking lord vishvaksena is to be corrected as

below.

Dear Sri Karpagam,

 

The above verse ius believd to be on VishNu only and sahasra nAma

pArAyaNam starts with it.

 

The correct transliteration is:

 

SuklAmbaradharam vishNum

SaSivarNam chaturbhujam

prasanna vadanam dhAyEt

sarva vignhOpaSAntayE

 

For us, the only remover of obstacles is SrImannArAyaNa.

This is a verse on VinAyaka. the correct version is:

 

agajAnana padmArkam

gajAnanamaharniSam

anEkadam tam bhaktAnAm

EkadantamupAsmahE

 

Here anEkadam means one who gives many things to his devotees.

Ekadantam means one who has only on tooth. But people wronlgly

pronounce it as "anEkadantam" and thus see him first with several

teeth and then with only one! unforutnate thing is those knowing

samskrutam very well also do not try to correct people but they

themsleves chant like that.

(i)do u use ch for first "ca"? If so,do you use Ch for "cha"? If u

follow this,then it's okay. If not,then it should have been

caturbhujam instead of chaturbhujam[ch/ca and Ch/cha].

(ii)dhyAyEt(meditation) and not dhAyEt

(ii)u have used first 'ga(ga)' in vignhO but it is second 'gha/Ga'

[gh/ga and Gh/gha]

 

But I do agree with you that even people who know samskrtham write it

wrongly that it can convey something totally different. At times

transliteration is very interesting and at other times it is a pain

in the neck!

acceptance is -- "Gananam thva ganapathy......................rasadanam,

om mahaganadhipathaye namah!"

Dear friends,

The first sloka of Sahasranamam invokes Narayana. Vishwaksena is the

Commander in Chief of Narayana, there is a sub temple for Vishwaksena in the

second prakara of the Srirangam Temple. To equate Vishwaksena with Ganapathi

is an aberration and a lie which has been perpetuated. The second sloka

quoted is not found in any text of the Sahasranamam and is obviously an

interpolation.
