I am not sure if many of you have read the following article by Prof.

M. R. Sampathkumaran on Periya Jeeyar. We had published this as part

of the swami's Tirunakshatira celebrations in California in 1999. I

found this very moving and emotional.

 

If you have not done so, pease read this following article, which goes

into the effort that swami had to spend in bringing back into

practice,the temple tradition as prescribed by Emperumanar, basically

re-establishing EmperumAnAr dharshanam after a hiatus of about 40

years. one can imagine the time swami would have spent in getting the

activites in order at various temples. One entire generation (about 40

- 50 years) had lost the meaning, importance of temple rituals,

recitations, utsavams etc. All learned folks went into hiding with

whatever information they can get hold of. After 40 years of Islamic

occupation, one can imagine the state of locals.

 

It was under these extremely difficult conditions Swami took up the

management of Srirangam temple and re-established it's primacy as the

religious capital of our glorious sampradhayam.
