Guest guest
Help Vaishnavi Recover from Tragedy "The calves mother suddenly pushed Caitanya into the road. Gaura quickly reached out and shoved her sister to safety, but lost her balance in doing so, and fell onto the road herself. A car ran over her leg, then sped off leaving her lying on the road side in a pool of blood with a crushed ankle nearly falling off her leg." A tragedy has come upon one young vaisnavi. Twenty-two year old Goura, daughter of Mahadevi dasi, came to India many months ago in hopes of reconnecting with her mother, sister and spiritual roots. Goura, who was born and raised within ISKCON, always dreamed of studying dance in India. She hoped to use her talent for dance in the service of Krsna. Overcoming great difficulties-with the help of her mother- she was finally accepted into one of the best dance schools in Delhi. The night before she was to begin school, Gaura and her sister Caitanya were walking along a Delhi road. Caitanya stopped to pet a stray calf on the roadside. The calves mother suddenly pushed Caitanya into the road. Gaura quickly reached out and shoved her sister to safety, but lost her balance in doing so, and fell onto the road herself. A car ran over her leg, then sped off leaving her lying on the road side in a pool of blood with a crushed ankle nearly falling off her leg. I will spare you the details of the agony that ensued in trying to get her to a proper hospital (anyone who has any experience in India would have some idea of how hellish this experience would be). Apart from the ankle, there were two other major fractures, which the doctor hoped to repair. Since the operation, however, she has developed an infection, and doctors have advised further surgery. At present, she is under the care of her mother in Vrndavana, and in excruciating pain unless heavily sedated. Knowing Gaura, I suspect the pain of knowing that she may never dance again is as agonizing as the injury. Her mother, who is not in good health herself, has no source of income and no means to pay the $1,000 for the much needed operation--what to speak of the ongoing therapy. Here is an opportunity to be of service to a young aspiring vaisnavi who desperately needs the love and support of her ISKCON family at this crucial time-when it would be easy to fall into utter despair. I hope some of you will take compassion upon Goura and send some laksmi to help out. Even if you can only afford ten or twenty dollars-anything would be greatly appreciated. Please send to: Goura P. Thanking you in advance. Your servant Sitala devi dasi (Text PAMHO:10233675) -----
