Causes of social upheaval in North East India vis-a-vis Hindu society

of the Country

By: Jagdamba Mall

"There were six American white nationals namely (i) David Frawley

(Vamdeo Shastri) (ii) Vrin Parker (Vrindavan Parker) (iii) Smti

Yvette Rosser (Ram Rani) (iv) SD Young Wolf (v) Andrew Foss and (vi)

Stephan Knapp. All of them spoke in various sessions and they

unequivocally said, "The eternal faith and culture of janjatis of

Northeast India in particular and all the janjatis of the whole

country is scientific, most colorful and best suited to them which

have international recognition."

Hindu society has been constantly fighting against the onslaughts

spearheaded by Muhammad Bin Qasim (712-15). Subuktigin (977-97),

Mahmud of Ghazani (997 – 1030)_, Muhammad Ghauri (1173-1206), Ghazis

of Gujarat (1197), Kutubuddin Aibak (1206-10) Muhammad Bakhtiar

Khilji (1204-6), Allauddin Khilji (1296 – 1316), Muhammad Bin Tughlaq

(1325-51), Firoz Shah Tughlak (1351-38), Timur (1398 –99), Babur

(1519 – 30), Sher Shah Suri (1540 – 45), Akbar (1556 – 1605),

Shahjahan (1623 – 1658), Aurangazeb (1658 – 1707), Ahmad Shah Abdali

(1757 – 61), Tipu Sultan (1786 – 99) and many more. Muhammad Bin

Quasim (712 – 15) wrote to Hajjaj, his uncle and Governor of Iraq

that he had captured Sivistan and Sisam. The infidels have been

converted to Islam or destroyed. Instead of idol temples, mosques

have been built. (Chach Mama of Al-Kufi: Elliot & Dowson. Vol. 1 Page–

164). Parimal Devi and Suraj Devi, the two daughters of Raja Dahir,

who were sent to Hajjaj to enrich the harem of the `Caliph', were

part of a large flock of Hindu maidens remitted as one fifth share of

the Islamic state from the booty of war. Timur (1398 – 99) slew one

lakh Hindus in one day. Because of the plunder and iconoclasm of

Muslim invaders and rulers of India, Hindu society remained self-

engaged in self-defense for twelve hundred years.

Jomo Kenyata of South Africa said, "When Christian missionaries came

to South Africa, we had land in our hand and they had Bible in their

hand. They asked us to close our eyes and pray. We did so, when we

opened our eyes. We found that Bible was in our hand and land in

their hand." Similarly, foreign Christian missionaries invaded India

under the absolute protection of British Crown. They had a vast Hindu

society for their harvest. They plundered Hindus in Goa. They played

havoc in coastal areas and weaker section of Hindus in Kerala, Tamil

Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Orissa and whole of the Northeast

State. At all places and at all the times these missionaries were

resisted at the level best. Many indigenous warriors lost their lives

in their fight against missionary menace.

Koran says, "O Prophet! Make war on the unbelievers and the

hypocrites and deal sternly with them. Hell shall be their home, evil

their fate." (Surah 66: Ayat 9). Another verse is as under, "Slay the

idolaters whenever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them and lie

in wait for them in every place of ambush.")Surah 9: Ayat 5) Bible

says, "Think not that I have come to bring peace but a sword. That to

set daughter against mother, son against father, daughter-in-law

against mother-in-law. That man's enemy will be in his own family.

(Mathew Chapt. 10: 34, 35, 36) Liberation theology has been

interpreted to liberate the people not from sin but from established

sovereign governments causing social upheaval. Christian people have

been killing each other in west. Muslims have been slaughtering each

other. And Christian and Muslims have been killing each other. But

when it comes to Bharatvarsh, Muslims and Christians join their hands

together to fight against Hindus – their common enemy. They are

assisted by Communists. There are many enlightened people in both the

communities who opposed such excesses.

Because of their sustained struggle for existence initially against

Muslims and later on against Muslims and Christians both, Hindus of

mainland could not pay requisite attention to redress the grievances

of Hindu brothers living in all the eight mini states of NE region

including Sikkim. Geographical inaccessibility and black-laws imposed

by British Government with malafide intention to check the positive

interaction, proto-cooperation and cultural assimilation with the

people of rest part of our nation, were another reasons that kept the

nation in dark about the fight for survival launched by Nagas, Mizos,

Khasis, Garos, Jaintias, Dimasas and many other vanvasi communities

of N.E. region against Muslims, Christian missionaries and British

Government. Simultaneously, our Hindu brothers (including those who

have now been converted to Christianity) dwelling in inaccessible

terrain and remote villages established in thick forests were not

properly informed of battle going on through out the country for

several centuries. Thus, our brothers in NE region felt neglected due

to lack of proper communication.

There were sizeable number of Hindus from Rajasthan, Delhi, UP,

Bihar, West Bengal, Assam and other parts of the country in cluster

at some places and scattered at other. They were in business, in

State and Central Government offices and in army and paramilitary

forces. All the three categories of Hindus – businessmen, State and

Central Government servants and security forces could not

successfully established good rapport and solidarity with local

brothers due to various reasons. They established flourishing

business enterprises and remained confined in their opulent homes.

Our local Hindu brothers – Nagas, Khasis, Mizos and many more felt

neglected and discriminated. They felt exploited. After Independence,

an awakening and enlightenment came to these brothers because of

education, surface and air transport, mass-media and tele-

communication. This enlightenment caused displeasure and anguish

which took at some places the shape of violent movement when their

voices were not heard and their grievances were not redressed

properly.

The international destabilizing and secessionist forces were already

hear from Muslim period. Their number and strength increased manifold

during British regime. They were in search of such an opportunity to

sow the seed of dissension and discontent. They turned these

movements as anti-Hindu and anti-national. Here again, the Government

of India and Hindus of mainland failed to identify the genuine people

who were trapped and pushed into the underground camps and the enemy

behind violent underground movements with an anti-Hindu commitment

Move should have been taken to liberate and rehabilitate such

victims. Proper protection should have been provided to innocent

people while enemy should have been dealt with as per the law of the

land.

With a view to smite the left arm from shoulder of the nation at

Siliguri Neck by driving away the whole population from the main

stream, the international secessionist forces worked overtime to

demolish the cultural heritage and their eternal faith causing hazard

to their cultural identity. All the janjati communities of Northeast

Bharat challenged and fought against these forces at their own under

the leadership of their valiant and gallant leaders to preserve,

protect and progress their eternal faith and culture, brighten their

cultural identity and maintain the unity, integrity and sovereignty

of the nation. Khonoma, Mezoma and Kekrüma Angami Naga Warriors,

Zeliangrong Heraka movement under the dynamic leadership of Haipou

Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu, Jamatia Hoda led by Bikram Bahadur

Jamatia of Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh Faith and Culture Society

established by Talum Rukbo, Japfü Phiki Pfutsana Kaseko Kehou founded

by Nisa Angami (Kedima) and Yose Chaya (Viswema), Seng Khasi once led

by fire-brand leader like Onderson Mowri, Chap Riak by Prof.

Gongmumei of Imphal, Dimasa Dharma Sabha founded by Sushri Binita

Jigdung and Minish Jigdung etc are such organizations of various

Janjati communities who are striving hard in this direction.

The 60 representatives of 30 such janjati Communities / Organizations

congregated on 1,2 April 2002 at Guwahati and constituted Uttar-Purva

Bharat Janjati Dharma Sanskriti Suraksha Manch (Northeast India Faith

and Culture Protection Forum) with a view to have a coordinated and

concerted effort for (i) preservation, protection and progress of

eternal religion and culture (ii) to establish good rapport with like-

minded other janjati/non-janjati communities/ organizations (iii)

maintain unity, integrity and sovereignty of nation and (iv) to

strengthen the bond of affinity with the nation. On 14, 15 December

2002, a seminar was organized under the aegis of the forum on topics

(i) facets of Cultural Identity (ii) Cultural values of Janjatis of

Northeast India and (iii) Preservation, Protection and Progress of

eternal faith and culture of janjatis of Northeast India. A total of

330 representatives of 60 organizations of NE states and Sikkim took

part in this thought-provoking workshop. Prominent and most talked of

among them were Mizo delegates who informed the house that there were

over 5000 Mizos in different villages who still held fast their

eternal faith and culture. There were six American white nationals

namely (i) David Frawley (Vamdeo Shastri) (ii) Vin Parker (Vrindavan

Parker) (iii) Smti Yvette Rosser (Ram Rani) (iv) SD Young Wolf (v)

Andrew Foss and (vi) Stephan Knapp. All of them spoke in various

sessions and they unequivocally said, "The eternal faith and culture

of janjatis of Northeast India in particular and all the janjatis of

the whole country is scientific, most colorful and best suited to

them which have international recognition. Your colorful culture and

eternal religion are the local manifestation of global religion which

America, Britain and other countries of the world are deprived of and

you are gifted to have this" Shri Vam Deo Shastri (David Frawley)

said, " Early American Christian missionaries came here and destroyed

your eternal faith and culture. I along with my five associates too

have come from America but with a different message. We have come to

tell you that Christian missionaries have destroyed eternal faith and

culture of American people. There is nothing left behind. They have

destroyed Inca, Maya and Aztec civilization and annihilated these

people. You are lucky still that your religion and culture are still

alive though wounded. On behalf of American Community, I beg apology

from you for the harm caused by those American Christian

missionaries." When their struggle for preservation, protection and

progress of eternal faith and culture was resounded and corroborated

by American Vedic Scholars, the janjati leaders' vow and commitment

were more strengthened and hardened. The great enthusiasm prevailed

in their mind to re-dedicate more for preserving their cultural

identity.

The attention of the country has been diverted towards the problem of

people in Northeast Bharat. As a result, the dialogues from different

underground leaders are being established. Various special schemes

are implemented to develop the whole area. Even Kohima has come up on

the rail-map of the country. On cultural front too, various programs

are undertaken to write-off the bottle-neck and establish good

rapport. Hopefully, these measures will slowly, gradually and

constantly fulfill the aspirations of the people of N.E.

region.http://kanglaonline.com/index.php?
