Islamabad: A total of 46 Indian prisoners, currently lodged in a

Pakistani jail, threatened to go on a hunger strike till death to

protest delay in their repatriation despite the completion of their

prison terms.

The prisoners held in Kot Lakhpat Central Jail in Punjab province

gave the threat on Monday when the Provincial Advisor for Law and

Human Rights Rana Ijaz Ahmad Khan, visited the jail and held

negotiations with them, local daily 'The News' reported on Wednesday.

Reacting to the report, an Indian High Commission official said the

identification process for 237 Indians including 173 fishermen, who

have completed their prison terms, has been completed.

"The nationality of 237 prisoners has been identified and we are

awaiting Pakistan to fix dates for their release," the official said.

There were still 14 more Indian prisoners whose identity was yet to

be established, he said.

Quoting official statistics, the newspaper reported that the Lahore

Central Jail housed a total of 121 Indian prisoners, out of which 106

have completed their prison terms and awaited repatriation to India.
