NOTE THE MEDIA'S HEADLINE WHICH IMMEDIATELY CAUSES THE READER TO MAKE

A JUDGEMENT BEFORE READING THE DETAILS. SOMETIMES I WISH THE MEDIA

HAD ONE NECK SO THAT COULD BE CUT OFF WITH JUST ONE STROKE OF THE

SWORD.

Ayodhya history in textbook angers BJP

''Twisted'' Ayodhya history in new textbook angers BJP

Tuesday, 12 July , 2005, 17:13

''...though Krishna plays an important part in the Mahabharata,

inscriptions and sculptural pieces found in Mathura between 200 BC

and AD 300 do not attest his presence. Because of such difficulties,

ideas of an epic age based on Ramayana and Mahabharata have to be

discarded....''

Lucknow: The BJP has taken a strong exception to the contents on

Ayodhya in the updated class IX NCERT book on ancient history.

BJP state unit president Keshari Nath Tripathi, who says he has read

the contents, said he had raised the issue with the party high

command.

Talking to UNI from Aligarh, he said he had read out the

objectionable portions to party spokesperson Sushma Swaraj.

Former HRD minister Dr Murli Manohar Joshi is likely to reach Delhi

to chalk out the party's strategy on the issue.

''Since the book is published by NCERT and meant for students across

the country, we have asked the central leadership to intervene,'' he

said.

Referring to the BJP's objections, he read out a

paragraph: ''Archaeological evidence should be considered far more

important than long family trees given in the Puranas. Puranic

tradition could be used to date Rama of Ayodhya around 2000 BC, but

diggings and extensive explorations in Ayodhya do not show any

settlement.''

Tripathi alleged that another portion on Lord Krishna was also

objectionable. He pointed to the following paragraph: ''...though

Krishna plays an important part in the Mahabharata, inscriptions and

sculptural pieces found in Mathura between 200 BC and AD 300 do not

attest his presence. Because of such difficulties, ideas of an epic

age based on Ramayana and Mahabharata have to be discarded....''

The former Speaker of the UP legislative assembly alleged the updated

book, by Prof Ram Sharan Sharma, tried to make the students discard

country's old civilisation.

He refered to another section, which reportedly reads: ''Ancient

India's march to civilisation was accompanied by growth of social

discriminations. The attempt to bring back the past will mean

perpetuation of social inequity which plagued the country.''

There should be an online signature campaign addressed to all hindus

not to vote for Congress and left parties for attacking hindu

culture by promoting text books which say Lord Rama and Krishna does

not exist.

BJP should make up with RSS and VHP and have a nation wide agitation

to discard these text books.

Who is this idiot Prof Ram Sharma who has written this textbook and

how much was he paid to write all this crap.

I fully agree with this idea. If you come up with any strategies that

I can help with, please let me know.

Somebody just needs to start a campaign online.Mnay people create

such campaigns online.I dont know how to do it,by creating a site or

webpage. But since you know many associations you can easily get this

thing done.Once you ask people to sign it online and then start

sending it to people,it just spreads like wildfire.According to me

Internet and SMS is the most powerful medium than newspapers to

create awareness and change opinions.

In the west media magnates are worried because blogs have started

taking over newspapers and are much more popular.
