It should be ensured that only Hindus are allowed into such committees. This should be the beginning to ensure that ALL the Mandirs are freed from the Government control. I am glad to note that Y Samuel Rajasekhara reddy has taken the lead. The Hindu chief ministers of other states should follow this fine example, as a beginning to free Hindu Mandirs from the clutches of governmental controls. The Chief Minister said he had taken this decision with a "nobel intention" by keeping in view the welfare of the archakas (priests) in the State who solely depend on the temples for their livelihood. The said temples where the archakas cannot even meet their daily expenses are freed from the the jurisdiction of the endowments. These temples have been given some kind of autonomy by the government. There will be least government interference in their day to day affairs until further orders. The temples committees and other local bodies will manage the temple affairs, revenue secretary D.C. Rosaiah told this correspondent after the meeting. Making the statement at a review meeting of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), here on Thursday, the Chief Minister said that these once these temples cross the income of the Rs 50,000 per annum they will automatically be back into the endowments fold. Presently, the Hindu religious institutions are categorised under 6(a) in which there are 238 temples with an annual income of above Rs 5 lakh; under 6(b) 1,382 temples with an annual income above Rs 50,000 and below Rs 5 lakh and under 6 © 32,098 temples with an income of Rs 50,000 per annum. On the TTD affairs, when the Chief Minister was said that of the 40 hereditary archaka families, only four families were on the rolls of the Tirumala temple, Dr Rajasekhar Reddy asked officials to look into their demands of providing employment to their children too. If all goes well, the male progeny of hereditary archaka families of the world famous Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple at Tirumala not on temple rolls may be employed by the TTD. Dr Rajasekhar Reddy also directed TTD executive officer A.P.V.N. Sharma to submit a detailed report to the government on the possibility of appointing the male progeny of 36 hereditary archaka families in the available vacancies. The Chief Minister also accepted the plea for a hike in pay and allowances of Potu workers at the temple and instructed the TTD Executive Offices to take a decision in their favour within three weeks. A delegation led by Ramana Dikshitulu of TTD, Prof Soundar Rajan of A P Archakasamakya and others met the Chief Minister and sought a favourable decision with regard to problems of archakas.
