Guest guest
Swami Ramdev unites Congress, BJP through yoga By Deepak Mahaan in Jaipur Friday, 22 April , 2005, 15:09 Sify.com He's worked out a miracle that even Lal Krishna Advani and Sonia Gandhi have failed to achieve till date! Swami Ramdev united the treasury and opposition members of Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha into one cohesive team on Friday. This left people astounded. He is not forming a political party of his own. Instead, he is now on a different mission. He wants the elected representatives of the people to learn Yoga so that they can contribute effectively to development of society. Therefore, he took a class for Rajasthan MLAs within the precincts of the Vidhan Sabha to help them improve their minds and bodies with Pranayam exercises. Unlike the noisy scenes witnessed day in and day out, this session saw legislators attentive and obedient to the instructions of the Swami and it was amusing to see senior politicians working out the various maneuvers. In an invigorating session, many an obese girth had difficulty carrying out the stretching and bending exercises. But despite obvious discomfort, no member raised any point of order nor staged a walk out since they all realised Swami Ramdev was clearly aiming to help the MLA's improve their well being in more ways than one. At the session, which saw amity and bonhomie cutting across party lines, Swami Ramdev opined that "Yogic exercises would not only improve their lung power but also make their attitude positive" and they would respond to issues with greater care and sensitivity. The hour-long exercises may or may not have done much good but it clearly benefited the Swami who made the MLA's loosen their purse strings. To a fervent appeal for building a yoga centre in Jaipur, the MLA's promised generous donations from their respective MLA funds and for once, the treasury and opposition benches were in near unanimity that Yogic exercises had been greatly helpful. While B.D Kalla, President Rajasthan Congress & Leader of the opposition, believed "Yoga would help release tension of politics, making it less burdensome," Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje felt "it would give greater strength to every legislator to do good, creative work in the legislature as well as outside it." Though politics has always been an uncertain and bitter game, for a change, this "Vidhan Sabha session" ended on a happy note with a "laughter exercise." And why not since all of them decided to give their salaries a raise at the expense of the taxpayer and passed the bill without a murmur.
