This is the second of a series the TV is doing with Subhash. I am sure

Congrats, Subhash, for an excellent presentation of hindu dharma:

Havan in a cosmic perspective.

dharmaani aasan (the first dharma's came out of that).

 

What do dharma's mean? The ordering principles, the cosmic ordering

principles that came out of creation. The principles are paralleled in

other phenomena such as: life stages, aas'rama dharma; governance,

raaja dharma; codes of conduct -- as Valmiki talks about Rama: ramo

vigrahavaan dharmah, 'rama is the personification of dharma'. Dharma,

says Vya_sa in the Mahabharata: dhaaranaat dharma ityaahuh, since it

upholds, it is called dharma. How come the planets in constant motion

do not fall off? There is some ordering principle. How come there is

some predictable order of motion? r.tam. What is it that unites the

conscience and cosmos? Yoga, the bond. Dharma and vrata are inviolate;

they can't be violated by even Agri, Varuna and Indra.

 

Yes, indeed, havan is a metaphor for an inquiry into the ordering

principles of the cosmos -- dharmaani. Hence, indeed, veda, from the

root: vid, 'to know'. Agni is merely the purohita, the carrier.

Havan in kosmisch perspectief

'Weet je dat je een onlosmakelijk deel bent van de kosmos'. In het

oude India werd je elke dag, bij zonsopgang, aan deze boodschap

herinnerd.

 

Vuuroffer (Havan)

Dit gebeurde door middel van een vuuroffer of havan dat op het

stadsplein werd gehouden. De Amerikaanse wetenschapper Subhash Kak

deed onderzoek naar deze oude traditie. In ons programma vertelt hij

hoe de oude havan kundha's (vuurofferputjes) een reflectie zijn van de

kosmos, en hoe de havan (vuuroffer) met de bijbehorende mantra's ons

herinnert aan de band die wij met de kosmos hebben.

 

Prof. Subhash Kak

 

Prof. Dr. Subhash Kak is verbonden aan de universiteit van Louisiana

(VS), en wordt gezien als een autoriteit op het gebied van de oude

Indiase wetenschap en technologie. Zo heeft hij ook veel onderzoek

gedaan naar de Arische invasietheorie.

 

 

Waar zijn de Veda's ontstaan?

Deze theorie beweert dat de Veda's (de heilige geschriften van het

Hindoeïsme) niet in India, maar ergens in centraal Azië zijn ontstaan.

Subhash Kak verwerpt deze theorie en heeft hier veel over

gepubliceerd.
