Hindu body raises 120,000 pounds for Tsunami disaster in India

 

London, Jan. 8. (PTI): Members of Britain's Hindu Forum Disaster Task

Force have raised an initial amount of 120,000 pounds for relief of

Tsunami Disaster victims in India.

 

Members of the Force include ISKCON, Sewa International, the Hindu

Council of Brent, Chinmaya Mission UK and London Sevashram Sangha.

 

"This is only an initial collection that does not include figures

from

all member organisations," C B Patel, National Coordinator of the HFB

Disaster Task Force said today.

 

"There will be yet another increase when appeals sent by member

organisations last week start receiving response from the public," he

said in a statement.

 

"The funds are utilised mainly for providing free food, medical care,

blankets and sheets, temporary accommodation, provisions, cooking

facilities and drinking water," Ramesh Kallidai, Secretary General of

the Hindu Forum of Britain, the largest umbrella body with over 230

member outfits, said.

 

"Teams of volunteers including many doctors and professionals have

been traveling all over south India rendering aid and providing

relief," he added.

 

President of ISKCON, Bhaktivedanta Manor temple in Watford and

Spiritual Commissioner of the Hindu Forum, Gauri Dasa said, "we

sponsored a mobile clinic from our Watford temple. 80 doctors and

paramedics from our Bhaktivedanta Hospital in Mumbai have so far

treated over 2000 victims."

 

"Another 100 volunteers have so far distributed over 50,000 hot meals

to the hungry...We have also adopted an entire village which will be

rebuilt to rehabilitate the residents," he added.
