Guest guest
Sri Lanka: * UNESCO to restore libraries throughout South Asia Monday, January 10, 2005, 22:14 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka. Jan 11, Colombo: Libraries affected by the December 26 tsunamis will be restored with funds from UNESCO. According to UNESCO sources, over US$ 100,000 will be released for the restoration of libraries throughout the Asian region. Dr. Susanne Ornager, UNESCO Advisor for Communication and Information in Asia, said that as Sri Lanka was badly hit by the December 26 tsunamis, more funds would be released to that country to rebuild libraries and to develop a modern library network. Dr. Ornager spoke to a media conference at the National Library and Documentation Centre in Colombo on the importance of giving publicity to how aid is being used. Donors and relevant authorities could be kept informed by creating websites, she said. This is more transparent, and the international community would be pleased to know how donated funds are being used, she added. http://www.colombopage.com/archive/January10221424UN.html
