Guest guest
Bhopal Police Get Yoga Lessons BHOPAL, INDIA, October 5, 2004: In the hierarchy-bound police force, a supercop in Bhopal has broken all barriers with a new mission to teach the virtues of yoga to the lower ranks. For Sanjeev Singh, the Chief of Special Task force in Madhya Pradesh and DIG Bhopal Range, it has been more of a learning process, going beyond the traditional roles of an officer and a subordinate. "On day one they were very stiff and skeptical. Gradually they realised this is not a training program with hierarchy," Singh said. The daily three-hour sessions of yoga have now become much more than just that. People now use these sessions to discuss not just their family and health problems, but also the fallouts of a stress-filled job-- insomnia, diabetes, high blood pressure and alcoholism. The interaction is clearly having the desired result. "We are mentally satisfied and are at peace. We hardly have any dialogue with our seniors but the DIG has been asking us about our families and is trying to solve our problems. Everyone likes that," one of the attendees said. This is clearly an effort with a difference. A senior in the role of a guru has been the biggest morale booster and a motivating factor for the constables.
