RAICHUR: Sangh Parivar activists staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Wednesday to protest against the arrest of Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswati by the Tamil Nadu police. Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Bajrang Dal, Goraksha Samiti and Shiv Sena activists participated in the dharna. In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner and addressed to the President of India, Sangh Parivar leaders alleged that the police arrested the seer while he was performing a pooja during Diwali time, which was unwarranted and an assault on Hindu culture. They demanded that the seer be released and the Tamil Nadu Government seek an apology for arresting the seer. H.R.Ballal, general secretary of VHP, Gattu Anjaneya Sagar, vice- president of VHP, Mylapur Sheshachalam, former president, K.Veereshwar, Sanchalak Bajrang Dal, P.Balappa, president of the District Goraksha Samiti, Ramesh Kulkarni of Parashuramdal, B.S.Patil of Shiv Sena and others led the dharna. RAICHUR BANDH: Meanwhile, the Sangh Parivar has called for a Raichur bandh on November.19 to demand the release of Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswati and Bajrang Dal convener Pramod Mutalik, according to the press note issued by the VHP and Bajrang Dal. http://www.newindpress.com/NewsItems.asp?
