Namaskar Mitra,

Travel to Bihar - the state gets its name from the word Vihara meaning monastery.

1. Sonepur - It is well known for its two-week cattle fair that is held in

October/November. It takes place around the full moon of Kartika Purnima, the

most auspicious time to bathe at the confluence of the Holy Ganga & Gandak

rivers. See interesting pictures of how the villagers store & retrieve grains .

2. Rajgir - Rajgir is sacred to the memory of the founder of Baudhic & Jain

Dharma since it is associated with both Lord Mahavir & Buddha. It was here that

the first Buddhist Council was held and Lord Buddha delivered some of his

important sermons here. Lord Mahavir also meditated in Rajgir.

first in the world to adopt a republican form of government. Lord Buddha

4. Patna - Patna earlier known as Pataliputra, Kusumpura or Pushpapura, which

means the city of flowers, the capital of modern day Bihar is among the

world’s oldest capitals with an unbroken history of many centuries. The

name Bihar is derived from the word Vihara meaning monastery. Also see the
