Last Annoucement Seer made before Arrest

Seers urge govt to stop 'interfering' in temple affairs

Seers of different Mutts with large following urged the government

to stop "interference" in the day-to-day religious affairs of Hindus

and honour the sentiments of Hindu samaj.

"The temples should be managed independently and the government can

help those administering them. Otherwise, leave us alone," they said

at the inauguration of the two-day workshop on "Good Governance of

Temples in Andhra Pradesh" organised by the Hindu Dharma Acharya

Sabha .

The seers who were present included Sabha convenor Sri Dayananda

Sarawati, Sri Jayendra Saraswati of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Sri

Nrusimha Bharati of Pushpagiri Peetam and Sri Pejawar Swami of

Pejawar Mutt.

Sri Tridandi Srimannarayana China Jeeyar Swami, who could not attend

personally, sent his message.

Dayananda Saraswati said: "India is the only country where Hindus

complain of discrimination though they are in majority". Even the

properties of the temples should be managed as per the wishes of the

donors, he said.

Opposing diversion of temple funds for other non religious purposes,

Nrusimha Bharati said that thousands of temples in the state were in

a dilapidated condition and the government should appoint priests so

that rituals are performed every day.

On disposing of temple lands, he said that they were donated

generations ago and the government was duty-bound to protect them.

Pejawar Swami alleged that the funds generated from Hindu temples

were being allocated to other religions in Karnataka to appease the

minorities. An autonomous body should be set up to manage the

temples, he said.

China Jeeyar Swami wanted the government to review the 30/87

Legislation which ended up in excessive government control leading

to closure thousands of temples in the state.

He reiterated his demand for setting up an advisory council for the

administration of religious affairs in Tirumala Tirupati

Devasthanams (TTD) that was in vogue prior to 1987. The council

should consist of Pedda Jeer, representative from archakas, Acharya

Purushas and Mirasidars of the Devasthanams.
