Guest guest
Sankaracharya spends the day doing puja Sunday November 14 2004 00:00 IST UNI VELLORE: Senior seer of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham Jayendra Saraswati, arrested and incarcerated in the central prison here in connection with a murder, spent his second day in the jail by meditating and doing pujas. The Acharya woke up around 0600 hrs and immediately took bath, after which he spent long hours in doing 'gayatri' and 'chandramouleeswarar puja,' prison sources said. After he had curd rice at around 1100 hrs, a jail doctor examined the Sankaracharya's health and found his sugar level and blood pressure to be normal, the sources added. Deciding to skip lunch, the seer spent the rest of hours in meditation. Though visitors were not allowed to meet the Acharya, a large number of his devotees gathered in front of the prison, expecting a ''good news'' from Madras High Court, which was hearing his bail plea. The 'I' block of the Vellore Central Prison, in which the Acharya was lodged, already had a VIP status as former chief minister and DMK founder C N Annadurai was detained here for three months in 1962 by the then Congress government for participating in an agitation against price hike. Freedom fighter Satyamurthy and former Tripura chief minister Nrupen Chakraborty were the other famous inmates of the central prison. http://www.newindpress.com/Newsitems.asp?
