Subject:Sikh and Hinduism

Dear Michael,

Yes, this seed was cleverly & deliberately sown in their mind that

they

are

different from Hindus. That resulted in their demand for a separate

country

called as Khalistan. After Indira Gandhi's assassination by a Sikh,

the

divide increased. However, all is not lost. Let me share my

experience

about

20 years ago, just around the time the Khalistan movement was at its

peak. I

attended a Sikh wedding. They have a practice that the elderly in

the

family

give a word of advice to the young couple at the time of their

wedding.

An

elderly man stood up to give a few words of advice. Apart from some

very

nice things that he said (including responsibility of the couple to

the

elderly, to the society, to the nation etc.), he advised that their

way

of

dealing with each other should be like Ram & Seeta. The Kirtan party

played

some nice Kirtans & recited some dohas from the holy Granthsaheb,

which

had

nothing else but Ram & Hari, sprinkled everywhere. The Punjab to

which

most

Sikhs belong was under the Muslim rule for 800 years. It was the

Marathas

(Warrior Hindu community of Maharashtra) that freed them from the

Muslim

rule when they overran the Mughals & other conquerors right upto

Attock

in

Paktoonistan, near Afghanisthan. Dohas composed by a great Vaishnava

Saint

from Maharashtra Namdev are a part of the Granthasaheb.

There are movements founded by RSS called as Rashtriya Sikh Sangat

which are

active to bring Sikhs back into the mainstream of Hinduism. No

wonder

then

that Master Tarasingh, a sikh was co-founder of the Vishwa Hindu

Parishad.

In the daily prayer of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, all Sampradayas

including

Buddhism, Jainism & Sikkhism have a pride of place.

Respectful Pranams,

Abhijit

Dear Abhijit Phadnis,

I'll accept that Sikhs are Hindus, or that Hindus will accept Sikhs

as

Hindus. However, if someone who calls himself or herself a Sikh

denies

being a Hindu, what then?

Respectfully,

Michael Gressett.

Sikkhism is a part of Hindu tradition and was created to protect the

Vedic

Dharma. In fact, the eldest son used to be a Keshadhari (Sikhs) and

the

others used to be Sahajdharis (Non-Sikh Hindus). It is a less known

fact

that the person who led Sikhs against Islamic tyranny after the

demise

of

Guru Gobind Singh was Banda Bairagi who hailed from Maharashtra and

his

name

was Madhavdas. He was a Yogi who came to the rescue of the Sikhs who

had

gone in disarray after Guru Gobind Singhs demise.
