I was struck with the names of Nâgas called Kauravya. Ulûpî sister of Vâsuki and the wife of Arjuna is called daughter of Kauravya or Kauravyakulanandinî (MBh 14.18.1,23) Chitrângadâ is also a daughter of Kauravya. The Nâga Kauravyas must be in the line of Dhrtarâ.sh.tra Kauravya, (descendant of Janamejaya II and by some of a Vâsuki) and a concurrent section of Kauravyas to the line of Pârik.sitas. The Dhârtarâ.sh.tras are called Nâgas, and 11 descendants are given, like Ku.n.dala, Ku.n.dika, etc. (see Vettam's Pur. Encyclopaedia) We get another hint of this Kauravya connection with the Mâgadha Nâgas, who are famous for wearing Svastikas. A Nâga of Mâgadha is even called Svastika (Hopkins Epic Mythology page 28, hinting at Harivamsha 3934) Magadhas are a branch of the Vasu Kauravyas. Magadhas must have been living in two areas, NW (former Kekaya area, with Girivraja, modern Giryak) and NE (former Kîka.ta area). NOTE: The Svastikas of these Kauravyas remind me of the SSVC symbol connection. Now I do understand the Nahu.sha and snake connection better. I am now inclined to see the Nâgas, like the Balhîka Prâtîpîyas, as Kauravyas, and thus Nahu.shas. That would also answer the question why they are absent from the RV, as the RV is a pre-Kuru work. regards, ishwa
