WASHINGTON, September 13 (Itar-Tass) - US President George W.Bush

visited the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C., on Sunday and made an

entry in the book of condolences, expressing sympathy for people who

had fallen victim to the recent monstrous school hostage seizure in

Beslan, North Ossetia, and reaffirming his country's solidarity with

Russia in resistance to terrorist threats. First Lady Laura Bush and

National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice accompanied the US President.

In a open-page note in the book of condolences, George W. Bush and

Laura Bush pointed out that they pray for the victims, their relatives

and next-of-kin, and stand side by side with the people of Russia in

the struggle of the entire free world against such evil as terrorism.

After writing the note in the book of condolences, President W. Bush

told reporters, "I am here to express my country's heartfelt

sympathies for the victims and the families who suffered at the hands

of the evil terrorists". The President said that the US stands

"shoulder-to-shoulder" with Russia in the war on international terrorism.

Bush said he had spoken on the subject with Russian President Vladimir

Putin immediately after the tragedy in Beslan and had reaffirmed the

American people's solidarity with the Russians. Bush said the US

government would continue to interact with the government and people

of Russia in every way.

Bush said, "The atrocities that took place in the school were beyond

comprehension". "Many in America and, I know, many Russians cannot

conceive the heart of a person who could mow down innocent children.

The killers once again remind us of the duties we have as free people

to work in concert, to work in unity, to make this world a better

place," he pointed out.

In comment on Bush remarks, Yuri Ushakov, the Ambassador of Russia to

the US, told Russian journalists after his meeting with the US

President that Bush proceeds from the assumption that it is essential

for America and Russia still more vigorously to resist threats and

challenges on the part of international terrorism.

It is symbolic that the US President visited the Russian Embassy on

the days when America marks the third anniversary of the terrorist

acts in New York and Washington.
