Abdul Kalam President of India Rashtrapati Bhavan New Delhi Hon'ble President Sir, I share the anguish of millions of Indias who are dismayed at the recent political developments. Notwithstanding the deceptive political arguments regarding the constitutional validity of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi's claim to the Prime Minister's post, I strongly believe, as many true Indians like Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo did, that the destiny of India should be shaped by Indians themselves. I do not agree with the projected perception that the people of India have implicitly chosen Mrs. Sonia Gandhi as their leader by voting in favour of the Congress or its allies. Twisted number games of the democratic election system should not be misused to thrust an unpopular leader on the unsuspecting Indian masses. The key to this national crisis lies in your hands today. Millions of Indians across the world look up to you as a role model and seek your help and support today, in resolving this issue in the interest of the nation. May I humbly remind you of your own assertion that the nation is greater than all individuals and our national dignity should be placed above all selfish concerns. I request you to advise the Congress and its allies to reconsider their impetuous choice and come up with an acceptable alternative. You may also consider refraining from giving the oath to Mrs. Sonia Gandhi if the "United Progressive Alliance" fails to come up with such a suitable alternative, acceptable to all Indians. The Indian Nation shall watch every move of yours in the coming days and we sincerely hope that you will not let us down. Thanking you, Yours sincerely, *****************
