May 4 is Buddha Jayanti, 22 is Rana Pratap Jayanti, 30 is Guru Arjun Dev Balidan

Divas. Mughal ruler Jahangir was angry with Guru Arjun Dev for providing support

to his son Khusrau ( who had rebelled against him) and ordered that Guruji be

tortured to death at Lahore. His greatest contribution was that he compiled the

Granth Sahib.

2. Sukhmani Sahib by Dr Ajit Singh Aulakh - The Holy Sukhmanee Sahib contains

24 slokhs followed by 24 Ashtapadees (Canto-Octets) and each Ashtapadee consists

of eight stanzas and each stanza contains ten lines. What is an Ashtapada? Quote

my email Guru, 'This is a metrical style of poetry, having eight pada's -

parts'. Friends it is not possible for me reproduce the whole Sukhmanee Sahib

so I have taken two or three Ashtapadees from each Slokh so as reflect the true

teachings of Guru Arjunmal.

3. Raja Dharma or Science of Governance by Swami Dayanand Saraswati - extracts

from Swamiji's masterpiece 'Satyarth Prakash'. Today the Supreme Court asks

Governments to obey Raja Dharma. Since India is not governed by the principles

of Dharma but a British instituted model I wonder why the Court refered to Raja

Dharma.

 

4. India the Mother (Pondicherry) - For Mother, as for Sri Aurobindo, India is

more than a piece of land, however lovable it may be; it is the Ancient Mother,

a form of the Shakti who fashions worlds and ages as well as her recalcitrant

children, and pursues her goal through progress, defect or even destruction.

When the world is experiencing the last years of the West's "long

decomposition," when we are being compelled to understand that Man is not the

ultimate product of our Evolution and that this earth is not meant to satisfy

our petty destructive greeds, the dormant strengths of India's civilization are

destined to shape the path of our future humanity and give the world the inner

impetus and vision that the West's fast-fading glitter failed to provide.
