-----------

NDTV Correspondent

Friday, April 2, 2004 (Shantiniketan):

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is in Shantiniketan today. His

visit follows the theft of Rabindranth Tagore's Nobel medal and

other memorabilia.

Vajpayee who is also the Chancellor of the Vishwa Bharati University

from where the medal was stolen, had expressed concern over the

daring burglary.

This is Vajpayee's second visit to Shantiniketan after taking over

as its Chancellor in January, 2001.

He will visit the Rabindra Bhavan museum, the scene of the crime,

and also meet the Vice Chancellor.

Meanwhile, a CBI team is already in Shantiniketan investigating the

theft.
