KANNUR: Poorotsavam, a unique nine-day festival of Kerala's North

Malabar region, is being celebrated from Thursday to invoke the

blessings of Kamadeva (Cupid) by young girls during which several

Devi temples dotted in the region would host cultural activities.

The annual festival that is celebrated from Karthika star till

Pooram star of the Malayalam month Meenam is being celebrated to

rekindle the prayers of Deva Kanyas to Lord Siva for the rebirth of

Kamadeva.

During the festival, young girls will decorate their houses with

particular flowers to seek blessings of Kamadeva to get a good

husband while various Devi temples and other places of worship

dotted across Kannur and Kasaragod districts will become the stage

for special cultural events like poorakkali.
