Omkareshwar: A popular pilgrimage for Hindu

As the name suggests, Omkareshwar is an island shaped like the

sacred Hindu symbol "Om". From Indore take a cab or a bus to

Omkareshwar, which is three hours away.

A popular pilgrimage for Hindus, it is one of the 12 places in the

country where the Jyothirlingam was found.

The spot has the famous Shiva temple - Shri Omkar Mandhata on the

island, which is at the confluence of the Kaveri and the Narmada

rivers.

Apart from the temples, Omkareshwar is a picturesque place that

also has plenty for the history and architecture buff.

Also on the island is the Siddantha temple, which is built in

medieval Bhramanic style. Near by are the 24 Avtaars - a cluster of

Hindu and Jain temples that too have splendid architecture.

Six kms away from Omkareshwar are a cluster of 10th century temples

called the Satmatrikas. And 9 kms away - is a picturesque picnic

spot of Kajal Rani Cave.
