Guest guest
Parents defend Indians arrested in Spain New Delhi: Two men of Indian origin held in Spain over the Madrid bomb attacks are innocent, relatives said in an interview with a private television network Thursday. Star News interviewed relatives and the aged parents of the suspects, Vinay Kohly and Suresh Kumar, who said the pair, related through marriage, had migrated to Spain 12 years ago to set up a small business in downtown Madrid. In Pictures: Spanish train blasts Kohly and Kumar are being held in connection with cellular telephones found in a backpack after the March 11 attacks which killed 201 people and wounded more than 1,500. "What is their fault?" asked relative Harish Chandra. "They just sold mobile phones and it is not their fault if terrorists bought them." The parents of Kumar, whose names were not revealed by the satellite television channel, said they were shattered by the arrests. Kumar's mother, who turned her face from camera, said the two were in Spain simply to earn a living. The Indian Express newspaper, meanwhile, said Kohly and Kumar, who both hail from Punjab, had been legal immigrants in Spain since the late 1990s. Earlier reports suggested they had been living there illegally. New Delhi has sought consular access to Kohly and Kumar, who have been questioned but not directly accused in the bombings by Spanish authorities. A video reportedly deemed authentic by Spanish authorities has claimed the Madrid bombings in the name of the Al-Qaeda network for Madrid's backing of Washington in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Spanish police have also arrested three Moroccans under anti- terrorism laws.
