BJP promises laws to ban conversions

BJP has also promised to supply one cow free of cost to each adivasi

family in the state. That translates into 6.5 lakh cows.

Wednesday, November 19, 2003 (Raipur):

 

 

The opposition BJP in Chhattisgarh today promised to enact laws for

the banning of religious conversions and cow slaughter if it was

voted to power.

 

These promises were contained in the party's manifesto for the after

the December 1 assembly elections in the state.

 

Party President M Venkaiah Naidu released the manifesto at a press

conference at party headquarters in Raipur.

Houses to slum dwellers

 

The manifesto also talked of introducing an Atal Awas Yojana to give

houses to slum dwellers and provide food for just Rs five to the

poor.

 

Under the yojana, houses would be given to slum dwellers by paying Rs

10 per day and when the money invested was realised, these would be

handed over to the owners.

 

State BJP President, Dr Raman Singh said that 1500 dal bhaat centres

would be set up all over the state provide meals to the poor at a

cost of Rs 5 to free them from hunger.

 

Tribal development

 

The manifesto promised to give free bicycles to all tribal girls

going to high school and assured that salt would be made available to

tribals at 25 paise per kg.

 

The party has also promised to supply one cow free of cost to each

adivasi family in the state. That translates into 6.5 lakh cows.
