Guest guest
Monday February 3, 6:17 PM Friends of Bali Party aims to raise S$50,000 for Indonesians affected by Oct bombings A group of young professionals in Singapore is busy planning a charity drive to help victims of October's terrorist bombing in Bali. They are staging a star-studded party at Zouk on Thursday in the hope of raising S$50,000 for the Indonesians in Bali, whose livelihood has been badly hurt by the bombings. The group of women each have their own fond memories of Bali. And when the tragedy happened last October, and Bali's tourism industry was hit hard, they wanted to help the locals whose livelihood also suffered. So when a friend in Malaysia initiated the Friends of Bali Party in Kuala Lumpur last month, Ong Ling Ling, who had lived in Bali for a year, got in touch with her own friends to organise a similar party in Singapore - at Zouk. She said, "This strikes at the core in my heart...The Balinese took me in their hearts, they were very warm and open, and that is something that inspires me. "We hope to raise as much as possible, but the most important thing is to have people understand that peace is what we need, because if we don't have peace, we don't have anything." The funds raised will be channelled through UNIFEM Singapore and will go towards improving tourism and education opportunities for the children of Bali. The party at Zouk promises to be a star-studded event with appearances by Nadya Hutagalung and Najib Ali. It will also be attended by the Ambassadors of 10 countries, including that of Mexico, Finland and Germany. And party-goers will not go home empty-handed; some S$30,000 worth of prizes from a raffle awaits them, including several nights' stay at 5- star hotels in Bali. This project is sponsored and supported by many well known names like the Lee Foundation, Resorts of Asia and Qantas. In fact the boutique ASEANA will sponsor clothes for a fashion show that night. Tiger Beer has also pledged to donate S$2 for every 5 bottles of beer consumed that night. Tickets for the party are available at TicketCharge at 62962929 or at their . The Friends of Bali Party in Kuala Lumpur managed to raise RM$100,000 or S$50,000. Two other Friends of Bali Parties will be held in Jakarta and Bali on February 4 and February 14 respectively.
