Guest guest Posted January 23, 2003 Report Share Posted January 23, 2003 India Gives Bursaries to Students The Nation (Nairobi) January 23, 2003 Posted to the web January 22, 2003 Clay Muganda Nairobi The Indian Government through Indian Council for Cultural Relations will award 23 scholarships to Kenyans in the 2003 and 2004 academic year. Given through its Council for Cultural Relations, the scholarships are in four different categories - 12 under general cultural scholarships, six under the Indo-Kenya Cultural exchange programme; four under the Commonwealth Scholarships and one under the Africa Day scholarship programme. Further to the 16, there are the 10 annual bursaries to the nominees from the Commonwealth countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America for the training of craft instructors in India. While the general cultural scholarship is for undergraduate courses only, the Indo-Kenya cultural exchange programme and the Commonwealth scholarships are for postgraduate and Ph D courses. The Africa Day one caters for all levels of university education. The High Commission's first secretary, Mr Sri Chand, said the scholarships are for any university in India and cover tuition fees, accommodation, stipend and air fare. However, those awarded general cultural scholarship will have to raise the airfare. The intakes for most universities in India starts during April, thus those who qualify for the scholarships will have to enrol by then. Nominations for the scholarships will be done by the Ministry of Education. , Science and Technology at Jogoo House. Meanwhile, the High Commission will hold the Indian education fair in Nairobi on February 22 and 23. Twenty five Indian universities offering professional courses ranging from medicine, architecture and engineering, will participate in the fair to be held at the Hilton Hotel, Nairobi.
