Parents Namaskar:

Announcement

SUMMER STORY PROGRAM OF INDIAN HERITAGE

Organized by Association of Grandparents of Indian Immigrants

The Association of Grandparents of Indian Immigrants is organizing a

Summer Story Program of Indian Heritage, for age groups (a) 5-12

years and (b) 13-19 years. Audio CDs/audio tapes (called Talking

Books) will be mailed to registrants. There are 21 audio CDs with136

stories to choose from. In order to make them interesting for any age

group, these stories are narrated in a professional manner, with

background music and appropriate sound effects. The program runs

between June 15 and August 15.

Registration is now in progress. Following registration, the

participants, in consultation with parents, can choose any 5 CDs out

of 21 that suit his/her need. Contact AGII (grandpa) for the

list of available CDs. You can register through e-mail or by mail

(Association of Grandparents of Indian Immigrants, 2619 Bradwell

Court, Baltimore, MD 21234) by filling the registration form and

paying a small amount of money to cover the cost of materials and

their mailing. The program package, however, will be mailed during

the first week May.

Successful candidates, who will listen to at least 20 stories and

answer the associated quiz questions, will receive an attractive

graduation certificate for display and a video (or a CD with power

point presentation) with stories of Indian heritage. Certificate of

achievement is distributed by September 15, 2002.

AGII Summer Camp of 2001 was a great success. This year (Summer,

2002), we are planning to conduct the camp a little differently.

First of all, we are giving it a new name, "Summer Story Program of

Indian Heritage". The title of "camp" was misleading to many, as the

participants do not come to a specified location. They can be

anywhere on the globe and yet attend the program through Internet or

through mail.

Secondly, instead of videotapes we will use audio CDs or audiotapes

that will act as "Talking Books of Indian Heritage (TBIH)". These

Talking Books are easy to pack and carry and are ideal during car

travel. Parents will find them very useful to keep the children

engaged, inside and outside the home. In addition, we have many

excellent stories in our collection, available only on audio tracks,

which we would like to introduce to the children of Indian

immigrants.

We have a collection of 21 audio CDs (or audio tapes) to choose from,

with 136 excellent stories in a digital format (see the catalog).

These cater to a broad range of participants, from a child of 5 years

to a young adult of 19 years. Following registration, you will

receive 5 CDs of your choice, suited to your taste and your child's

ability. We have, however, indicated our recommendations in the list

provided. Each story has a few multiple-choice questions to make the

program interactive with the participant. These are available in a

separate floppy disk. The questions can be answered on the floppy

disk or on hard copy and sent to us for review. You also have the

option to transfer the information into your own computer and send

the answer through Internet (we prefer Microsoft Word for

communication). If a computer is not available, please make a special

request for a hard copy of the quiz questions to mail to you.

Registration for Summer Story Program starts now. The program-

package, however, will be mailed out in the first week of May. The

program runs during June 15 - August 15. In order to successfully

graduate, we expect the participant to hear a minimum of 20 stories

during the two months period, and to answer the quizzes. The answers

must reach the office of AGII before August 20. Certificate of

achievement is distributed by September 15, 2002.

Please register promptly to facilitate our planning.
