Guest guest
Dearest Sri Acharya, With complete surrender to my dearest acharya, 1) Why does God cause all the suffering and natural disasters like Earth Quakes and cyclones? 2) Can we all pray for those departed souls, if they have rebirth to be born as Vedics who in due course of their life will practise and preach Ramanuja Sampradaya? Guest guest
Questions as answered by HH Sri Swamiji were being presented here. To "vaidhehi_nc" <nappinnai_nc NC Githa ! Jai Srimannarayana ! We are giving answers to your questions below each paragraph. You may go through them. > (i) According to Thenkalai sampradAyam,we start Sri sailEsa...And it > was chanted by none other than the Azhagiya MaNavALan/SriRanganatha. > Why the vadakalai sampradAyam doesn't recite that during sARRumuRai? > My father used to say that much after maNavALa mAmunigaL's time, the > difference in feelings started among people in mElkOte first. Is it > true? We all know that till the advent of RAmAnujA untouchables > weren't allowed in the temples and Udaiyavar opened the gates of the > temple for all in Tiru NArAyaNapuram. It is true that till 250 years back everyone used to recite "Srisaile:sa Daya:pa:thram" only. After that some unwanted elements crept into the Sampradayam. After Britishers have conquered India using the Divide and Rule policy, they have ruined many of our Vedic traditions, temples and scripts. Since then, the very narrow gap between Vadagalai and Tengalai has been broadly widened by some other internal elements. But, according to the available records, even people following Desika also chanted "Srisaile:sa Daya:pa:thram" only until then. Something took place and the environment has been corrupted by unwanted viruses. As you said, it is only Ramanuja who daringly opened the doors to all castes and sects to enter the temple and pay their obeisances to the God. It is his revolutionary triumph that has been a landmark to implement the inherent ideals of SriVaishnavism truly. > (ii)EmperumAnAr/Bhagavad RAmAnujA expresses Bhakti as the mode of > realization for mOkshA. If I understand BG very little,I see that > from Chapter 18:66,all it means is Prapatti. I conclude(I could be > highly wrong!)that KriSNA says that even an expert swimmer may get > drowned in the oceanic waves/samsArA(similarly however expert one is > in brahma vidyAs,one may not cross the ocean of samsArA),so > "surrender to Me Alone(as I represent everything and not the other > wat round, just as the difference between proper noun/NArAyaNA and a > common noun/Siva,ViSNu etc)and I will lead you" and I detect a > similarity between this and "mArjara" philosophy. My question is > RAmAnujA should have said something about prapatti in SriBhASyam if > not why. It is said that(I was reading Baladeva's commentary on > Badarayana's brahma suTrA)BadarAyaNA himself quotes BG in Brahma > sUtrA. What exactly bhakti means as per RAmAnuja's sribhAshyam? It is a big question to answer. It is difficult to answer in few simple words. However, you can remember that Bhakthi is "INCESSANT, UNCONDITIONAL LOVE TOWARDS LORD SRIMANNARAYANA WITHOUT EXPECTING ANYTHING IN RETURN". Prapaththi is ripened state of Bhakthi. Bhakthi though has several phases, the main types are Sa:dhya Bhakthi ie., the one that has to inculcated, generated by doing severe austerities, Vrathas, Yathras, Meditations, Japas etc. To get Bhakthi this way is very difficult strenuous and almost impossible. whereas the other ie., Siddha Bhakthi needs nothing. It is already accomplished. It is God himself. This Bhakthi need not be created nor generated. Accepting God as ultimate solace and means is Prapaththi. If God thinks to give Moksham, he gives, if he doesn't, he will not. It is irrespective of any other reasons or causes. So many intellectual discussions are going on and many are not according to the scriptures. They are giving their own convictions which need not be considered. In BG 18-66, Lord Krishna said "Surrender to Me". It doesn't mean that if one says that I have surrendered or one tries to feel that they have surrendered does ensure moksham. Accepting or not our surrenderance is entirely at His discretion. He gives Moksham out of His boundless and causeless Grace. But, as a human being has knowledge that keeps mind enguaged otherwise, one has to surrender and keep his mind totally on Him. Do every thing as service to Him with utmost reverence and devotion. If he does this not, then because of the knowledge he posseses, mind of a man gets settled on something else as mind cannot be without either. To show that one seeks the path of Moksha, one has to surrender. Our surrenderence is just like a Green Signal. Though Green signal cannot bring the vehicle because it was put on, but when vehicle comes (Anugraham), it allows it to pass through. But, red signal is so powerful (our Prathishe:dam) that even when the vehicle comes, it stops it there itself without allowing it to pass through. So surrenderence is required but, it is not the means to get the moksham. Moksham is granted by Lord at His will with causeless mercy and boundless grace irrespective of any reason whatsoever. > (iii)Is Bhagavad Gita considered as both sruti and smrti text? Is > there any written references(vEdAs)that it is a sruti text? Can you > quote the sUtrA that says that BG is a sruti text? Bhagavadgitha is the essence of Sruthis. God recollected all that is necessary for everyone and preached it in BG. So Bhagavadgitha comes under Smrithi. Our Acharyas also accepted it as Smrithi. BG can also be called as Ithihasa as it is placed in the Mahabharat. > (iv)Gadya trayam and Nitya AnusanthAnam were written by RAmAnujA > during his midlife. Gadya trayam is an outpouring of RAmAnujA's love > for SriRanganatha(he says "You're my everything etc."). Is there any > written document by RAmAnujA or His successors/our pUrvAchAryAs > saying that Prapatti is the only means and also the end? In > saraNAgati gadyam,EmperumAnAr uses the word parabhakti-parajnyAna- > paramabhakti many times. Though I understand "some" samskrt I don't > want to assume anything. What is he asking Lord Ranganatha? He is asking Lord to bless with Eternal Service with incessant Love. He never asked it to give it here in this world or in someother world. He asked God to give Him that Eternal Service with incessant Love wherever the soul exists and wherever God wishes to put the soul. > (v)Regarding kUraththAzhwAn:Is there a role of karmA here? Or just to > > prove AchArya bhakti he loses his sight? God could have done > something to prevent dear kUrEsan from losing his sight?(I know that > he had a spiritual eye but somehow I couldn't digest that story > because I love kurathAzhwAn and AndAL). For Ku:raththalvan that is the dedication and commitment towards Acharya and Sampradaya. It is not the Karma Provoked. He never cared to lose even his life for the sake of protecting Acharya and Sampradaya. That is the commitment which is the need of the day, not the arguments and discussions on our own convictions.
