relunctant to come. In fact Mother resides in the abode with lord Shiva. to

give darshan Mother has to descend from her beautiful palace to descend on

has come on this dirty, ugly, unpure earth leaving her beautiful abode.

therefore, blood sacrifice is not the only solution to satisfy our Kindhearted

Dear Jyotsna Pandit

>I hail from a place where people still believe in the custom of

blood sacrifices and as far as i have heard Kali Ma eats watever we

eat so if the devotees are non vegeterian then we can not cricize

the thought of offering blood to Ma.

I agree with you, even though I hail from a country (Australia)

where blood sacrifices are not part of the culture.

As the Mahanirvana Tantra says, truth is dharma.

If animals are to be killed and eaten, is it better to have it done

very discretely, behind the walls of a slaugherhouse, where the

public doesn't see?

Or is more honest to do the killing before the gates of a temple,

where all -- woman and man, Goddess and God -- can see the truth of

what happens.

I used to know a lady who used to think nothing of eating various

sorts of meat. Until one day, friends of hers, who were farmers,

gave her the opportunity of shooting a pig herself, prior to

feasting on it. She did so, and afterwards she became a vegetarian.

I am not necessarily advocating vegetarianism. However, I find it

easier to understand someone like her, than to understand the many

eaters of meat who don't want to know how it comes to be on their

table.

Om Shantih

blood.Though its written in the Chalisa not to make any contact of

Chalisa with flesh or blood but if this culture is still running

needs blood.I have witnessed many of these offerings made in our

Dear all

If we remember science we can know that matter can not be destroyed but can only

be transformed. It is transformed in to different matter and energies are also

transformed. Am I right so far?

We also read the scriptures and read various stories of Gods and Goddesses in

them. However these are not stories to be read but the hidden meaning and

message has to be understood as well. Ma Kali took her form during the battle

between Ma Durga and the demon Raktabeej. Raktabeej had wonderful multiplying

qualities in his blood. If his blood touched any matter it would create a 000

demons like him [remember the dragons teeth in Jason and the golden fleece?] in

extreme anger the Mothers colour turned black and she opened her mouth wide

enough and took the demons on her tongue. She beheaded Raktabeej and drank all

his blood and ate away all the demons created by his blood. The Mother not

being matter but pure energy the demon could not multiply and was totally

destroyed. Nothing remained no bones no flesh and no ashes. The elements were

also destroyed. Hence the Mother established that matter can be destroyed

completely by HER!!!!!! She is the supreme power.

Another story goes where Ganeshas head was chopped of by Shankara and which made

Mother Parvati very upset. In her anger she assumed the form of Kali and Durga

and wrecked havoc on the Devas. Her nerves assumed the form of the 64 yoginis.

Her yoginis went about devouring humans animals on earth. The Mother forbade

them form doing so but when the yoginis pleaded for more blood the Mother cut

her own head and made them drink her blood. They were aghast and had to stop

the slaughter. The mothers one drop of blood dropped on earth where stands the

divine temple of Mansa Devi.

On account of the above there is no way the Mother can ask for blood sacrifice.

It is just an assumed practice. However offering a goat has its meaning. Goat

is the personification of carnal desires and if one has won over his sexual

extremes he/she can offer a goats head stand on the head and announce to the

Mother that he/she is free form the desires of the flesh. This I had read

somewhere. But eating the goat I did not read.

During the great famine Maharishi Vhishwamitra had eaten a dog and offered it to

the Mother also. On which the Mother had assumed the form of Shakumbhari and had

a 1000 eyes and had showered the earth with food grains vegetables and water.

Jai MAA!!!

Hello Derek.

>Offering my own blood to her would still be considered a "blood

sacrifice", correct?

Yes.

There are references to offerings of this type in the Devi Mahatmya,

Kalika Purana, and the Tantras. If I remember correctly, one tantric

text says that it is better to offer one drop of your own blood than

a pitcher of blood from another creature.

Have you considered mundane issues, such as blood poisoning,

infection, anaemia? I know an ardent worshipper of Kali who

accidently set fire to his bedroom while burning candles before an

image...

Om Shantih

question regarding blood sacrifice.......Ive read alot in this group

about sacrificing animals to Ma but I myself have offered my own

blood to her....just a few drops at a time and it seems to be

effective. Offering my own blood to her would still be considered

a "blood sacrifice", correct?
