Those already staying in the camp say over 200 children from the camp have either been sold or mortgaged for a few thousand rupees. Some of those who were taken outside the state have not even returned. "It was a deal of Rs 8,000, but we never got the money after working for a month and seven days. My son's dead body was found as they had killed him," another camp resident, Tichoo Devi, who had also sold her son, adds. When the CNN-IBN team questioned local officials about the issue of the children being sold, they denied such a situation. But the ground reality as was witnessed by the team was very different and never near to the situation projected by the offficials. The children in these migrant camps have a difficult option, but it is even more difficult for their parents. To bring up one child, the other has to be sold. Joginder died two months after that. Karam Chand, a physically challenged labourer, sold his son for only Rs 1,000. He regrets having done so but makes it clear that he had no options. I once visited their camp in Delhi and heard their pathetic stories...how their girls were raped and they were forced either to change religion or run away.... Saffron Senapatis are more busy in Rathha Yatras, practically nothing has been done so far. Baba --- Someone gave a logic on the group post, that you have to pull the string backward to send the arrow forward. By that logic at some point "mera desh" should move forward. Even God doesn't act until things really get bad. Earlier I mentioned that there was a 2nd seminar of the Hindu Achaya Sabha in Bombay. I was watching their VCDs, One of the Saints from Karnataka pointed out that Last year Govt. collected Rupees 60 crores from Hindu temples in the state (because these temples are controlled by the State) and they spent only 10 crores on the tepmles and the rest was utilised for projects like subsidizing Haj pilgrims. Perhaps this pathtic state of affairs is not sufficient, things have to get worse. But the positive note is that Hindu awareness is slowly coming, I think. Guest guest Posted June 5, 2006 Report Share Posted June 5, 2006 Yes , by common logic it definitely seems so. lack of self respect is so pronounced among majority of Hindus , but that is to be expected from a people who have been trampled for centuries.and our politicians are exploiting it to maximum advantage. However there is a silver lining , India's current economic growth rate . You will have noticed that the economically better off & well educated are usually more conscious of self respect and tend to support our ancient culture & dharma.(except Communists ofcource).The politicians will be less able to exploit a better educated & well off population The rapid economic growth India is having now will surly have a positive effect . but it will take another 20 - 30 years of high economic growth for that.
