Guest guest
I do not know when and where Shakti puja was linked to sacrifice of animals…but this is sure that our scriptures never allowed such sacrifices. Perhaps it was a social evil started by the non-veg people to satisfy their taste buds in the name of Mother Kali. Our tantric scriptures (like Bhairayamal Tantra, Bhav-chudamani etc)… always compared our Ego like that of an uncontrolled Mahish (ox,buffalo) and our mind as uncontrolled Aja (goat)…hence a Tantra must sacrifice his Mahish-like ego and his aja like Mind. Until Ego is killed and Mind is destroyed, no one can start Shakti puja. This was misinterpreted by people and they started sacrificing innocent animals in the name of Shakti puja. Mother Kali is eternal mother of all living beings in the universe. How will she be happy if we kill other innocent animals in her name. The Mother herself forbade head of the temple to stop sacrifice in her name. During my visits to Himalayan Temples I happened to pass a temple in Uttranchal. The temple is called Dhari devi by local people. The story behind the temple is :- On way to Kedar Nath, there is a sacred town Gupta Kashi in the way. From Gupta Kashi a narrow road goes down to the valley. 15 Kms from Guptakashi is the sacred temple of Kaali Mathh. This temple has historic value and has some very rare sculptures of devi and shiva, said to be thousands years old. In the jungle nearby….one can find 64 yantras of devi ….made naturally on the rocks. After the war of Devi with demons, as mentioned in Durga Saptshati, Kali's anger was not cooled down….she roamed around destroying everything which came to her path. All gods were worried and they requested Shiva to cool down kali. Shiva lied down on her path and the moment Kali's stepped on shiva, her anger cooled and she was ashamed. Shiva asked her to be constructive as all the demons had been destroyed. Kali said…so much energy I have generated..i don't know what to do with this energy. Lord shiva advised her to use her energies for the welfare of the beings and blessed her with the name Kalyankarini (welfare doing mother). Mother Kali then whirled around and entered the earth. So there is a deep hole, where kali said to have entered into the earth. In Kali Mathh this deep hole is worshipped. It is said that mother kali entered into earth here…and came out from the temple of Dhaari Devi…in Kalyankarini form….for the welfare of beings. Till 2000, people used to sacrifice goats and sheeps in that temple. The head priest of the temple, who is himself a non- vegetarian, himself encouraged people to sacrifice. One night while he was performing Kali japa , Mother kali appeared before him and told him to stop sacrifice immediately. She warned him if the sacrifice is not stopped, she will destroy the family of the priest. The priest asked,"But it is for thousands of years that people have been sacrificing animals. Mother Kali told the priest that she has always been warning priests about this sacrifices….for centuries. The priest was so convinced…he immediately ordered to stop sacrifice in the temple. Since he himself was killing animals, and ate meat, he has to be believed. ...because he stopped eating and killing meat. Mother Kali should be worshipped in Sattvic manner only. Violet or dark colored flowers should be used for puja. After her Dhyana, one can chant her name with devotions….she has two beeja mantras (Krim and klim)…any of them can be chanted. Sweet should be distributed after the puja. And don't forget to lit a lamp before the puja Love Baba PS: Dear devi bhakta…one of yr msg came through , brazil another from India…where actually are you from?
