Guest guest
MAHAKALI - TATTWA ----------------- Mahakali TaTtwa is the key to understanding the Universe. She is worshipped as :- Shava-rudha mahabhima ghordanshtra hasamukhim Chaturbhuja khaadag nundavrabhayakarm shivam Mundamaladharam devi laljivha digambram Evam sanchintayet kalim shamshanalaya vasinim Kali is standing on a dead body. Her body is fierce and she is laughing. She has four hands, sword in one hand, cut head in the other. One hand is in abhaya Mudra, the other is blessing one She has a garland of heads around her neck and has red tongue She is completely naked. Her abode is cremation ground. Now it needs a very strong heart to worship such a fierce Devi. But if we study carefully the Dhyanam of Kali, we will find details of a great Truth. Mahakali is Black in color…becoz all colors lose themselves in Black. She is the eternal energy and her time of manifestation is when there is nothing in the world. And when there is nothing…we denote it with black color. She is Naked….becoz the universe is her manifestation. She hides behind the veil of maya of the Universe. Since her time is of Maha- pralaya when all manifestation is destroyed….a time after which new universe is born. Hence since there is no universe, Mahakali is Naked…here nakedness denotes she is in her original form, without masks of the universe. She has four arms. Four arms denote four major directions (nORTH,SOUTH,EAST,WEST). This portion of iconography denotes Mahakali is in all directions. She has weapons in two hands…apparently to destroy the Universe. She has a garland of heads around her neck What is this for ? Famous Bengali Shakta Bhakta Ramprasad sings Sansar chhila na yakhan Mundmala kothay paili ? (Hey Mother where there was no universe…how did you get the garland of heads?) Here the garland of heads denote 50 syllables of Sanskrit, which are around her neck. All universe is evolved from the sound of these 50 syllables…and after pralaya…whole universe dissolves into 50 basic sounds, which Mahakali preserves to start another universe. Hence the garland of heads around her neck. Her one hand is in abhaya Mudra (a sign to dispel fear) and the other is in blessing sign. This denotes that though Mahakali is fierce, She is the cause of destruction of the universe…still she is eternal mother and tells her bhaktas not to be afraid of the destruction or the fierce form. She assures her Bhaktas by these Mudras that they will be saved from her wrath. Bhakta Ramprasad, Ramkrishan Paramhansa, sadhaka Kamalkant had the Darshan of Mother kali .
