Namaste all. _/\_

This verse from Gita is very well known and quoted as well as

explained by many spiritual teachers. Here is one more from

Sri Rama Krishna Mission:

In the verse 2.7 Arjuna said to the Lord,

kArpaNya doSopahat svabhAvaH

pRcchAmi tvAM dharma sammUDha cetAH,

yaccreyaH syA nnizcitaM brUhi tan me

ziSyaste te 'ham zAdhi mAM prapannam

"My nature is weighed down with the TAINT of feeble-mindedness;

my UNDERSTANDING is CONFUSED as to right duty.

I ENTREAT You, say definitely WHAT IS GOOD FOR ME.

I am Your desciple. Do instruct me WHO have TAKEN REFUGE IN You."

Arjuna confesses that this crisis has driven him to the position

of a 'Kripana'. The Upanishad says that he who does not STRIVE for

spiritual enlightenment is a 'Kripana'.

"anyacchreyo 'nyadutaiva preyaste ubhe nanArthe puruSaM sinItaH

tayoH zreya AdadAnasya sAdhur bhavati hIyate 'rthAd ya u preyo vRNIte"

"One thing is the good and quite another, the pleasant;

being of different requisitions, they both BIND man.

Holy becomes he who pursues the GOOD,

but falls the man from the goal,

who chooses the PLEASANT."

Arjuna finds himself now at the cross-roads between the PLEASANT and

GOOD. He who was all along the kinsman and comrade of Sri Krishna, now

becomes a DESCIPLE and SUPPLICATES for the gift of 'Sreyas'- the GOOD.

He SURRENDERS himself to the Lord. This FRAME of mind is PREREQUISITE

to the ATTAINMENT of spiritual ENLIGHTENMENT.

He who SEEKS to make a sacred study of the Bhagavad Gita will do well

to CHANT this verse every time and to EVOKE in himself the attitude of

SELF-SURRENDER seen here in Arjuna. It is a PRAYER complete in itself.

-----------

Lord Krsna has stated in the Gopala-tapani Upanisad (Uttara 4):

aputah puto bhavati yam mam smrtva

avrati vrati bhavati yam mam smrtva

niskamah sa-kamo bhavati yam mam smrtva

asrotri srotri bhavati yam mam smrtva

Translation:

By remembering Me, one who is impure becomes pure.

By remembering Me, one who follows no austere vows

becomes a strict follower of sacred vows.

By remembering Me, one who is desireless develops

desires to serve Me with love.

By remembering Me, one who has not studied Vedas

becomes an expert knower of the Vedic wisdom.

Jaya Sri Radhey!

because of weakness. In this condition, I am asking You to tell me

clearly what is best for me. Now I am Your disciple, and a soul

surrendered unto You. Please instruct me."
